i have a 02 max with 90k and some time when im driving normaly the abs light just comes on and some times when i just start the car.theres a hissing noise few seconds after i start it and then the light comes on i just had my brakes and rotors replaced it also came on when i had the old worn out breaks on could it be my abs be going bad? i checked everything has any one else had this probelm? thanks!

 

One of your abs sensors might need replacing...I think only the dealership can fix this unfortunately...I could be wrong, one of the vets on here may have more insight

 

Try cleaning the sensor magnets. One bolt on the back of the backing plate, pull out the sensor, clean it off and reinstall. There is probably a better write-up if you search around.

 

Find someone with a Snap-On Solus or Modis scanner w/ up to date Asian software.
There are ABS code reading functions, unless you know someone at a dealership you can ask them to take 30 secs and pull ABS code for ya

 

the "hissing" noise is the abs computer turning off the abs. +1 on what scott and nismo said, i had a abs code pulled, cost about 96$ just to tell me teh left rear was no good, needless to say i replaced it myself

 

Let me guess whom ever changed your rotors was doing some banging with a heavy object trying to get that rusted rotor loose? I bet that the magnet are cracked and you will need to replace it! I'm not sure how long that wire is...I'm take a look in my FSM's to see if it's sort of like the O2 sensor are set up, having a connector plug not too far from the sensor to make replacement easier! You may have to have the dealer clear the abs light. But I would change the sensor/fix the problem and then unplug the battery for a while too see if it will clear itself once fixed!
