SES Light ON but No DTCs?

I have a 2001 Maxima GXE with A/T. The car has 73,000 miles. Recently, the Service Engine Soon light came on. I have a cheap code scanner, which reports that there are no DTCs and all monitors are in the READY state. So, why is the light on? Will it go out by itself? If not, how do I get the light off (without taking it to the dealer)? Thanks in advance for your help.

unplug it for 5mins, it should clear the light! Or let Autozone or some other autopart store read the code, there's no charge!

I have unplugged the battery once before, and it did clear the Service Engine Soon light for a few weeks. However, it has come back. Any reason why it would come back?

maybe because you just reset the computer instead of fixing the problem that triggered it in the first place!
