4th Gen dude thinking of joining 5th gen.

I was a very happy driver if a 95 4th gen SE but it looks like I have to move on due to an accident. Can you guys sell me on the Idea of owning a 5th gen as opposed to buying another 4th gen, I know more HP but are the mods more expensive and harder to do urself. Are the 02-03 SE reliable b/c this is the one I would buy. Are there any mods that fit both Gens? Im really considering it b/c I dont want to spend the extra money for a 6th gen.

There is already some threads on this. I've had a 95 SE 5spd and now have a 03 SE 6spd. To compare them, the 5.5 gen has a lot more *****, and is a lot more comfortable / luxurious. The 4th gen was somehow more fun and had more spirit (as cheesy as that sounds)... was more maneuverable and felt more sporty. Stock, the 5.5. gen feels more like a cruiser than a sports sedan. The the turning radius is absolutely horrible. The clutch pedal goes down very deep and the engagement point is pretty high.

Go test drive some and feel for yourself. As for mods that would fit both... I know the air filters are the same.

Do it get a 5th gen, or even go for the 5.5. I'm happy with mine.

the extra gear and half a liter of displacement make a huge difference.. just keep a quart of oil in the trunk to top it off every week or 2

I understand there is a search option for issues and topics relating to 5th gens, was hoping someone would give me personal feedback about which way to go. Everyone buys a car for different reasons and make their decisions when they receive feedback, negative or positive. Maybe its redundant to you guys but very emotionally satisfying when you feel confident about your decision. Thanks to all that gave their personal input even tho you might have wrote it before.

we didnt tell you to search (though that is always an option)...we just let you know that there is a dedicated sticky for people considering a 5th gen...you can ask all your questions in there

I had a '97 5 speed with 150k miles, and sold it to buy an 03 6 speed with 65k miles. The 03 has more power, and the extra gear is nice, but that's all. The 97 5 speed shifted much better. That transmission was smooth and easy, and you could throw it from gear to gear without a problem. The 03 6 speed takes much more deliberate shifting, and detracts from the driving experience.

Upshot: although the 03 has more power, the 97 felt sportier because the transmission was easier to deal with.

I have both a 95 and 03. 1st and last year of the coolest Maximas.

You'll be surprised how similar they are to work on.

Glad to hear that they are similar as I do like the 03's. Wish some of my modes would fit. Maybe I'll get an 03 and fix up the 95 at my leisure. hmmm....
