Blown 02 Engine?

Still working out issues on my possible blown engine. Had a mechanic over and put new plugs in just to get the car started. Before anything looked at the oil previously drained and say a grey muck collected around the magnet I put in the pale. Mechanic says it is metal, but not shaving. It was so fine it felt like mud. Mechanic did not feel that'll be a problem. Anyhow, once car started, herd a clacking. Mechanic says its a connector rod. Still cant determine if that's a symptom or a cause. Impressions, anyone?

Thanks,

Bob

UOA? Sound clip? Background as to what caused a broken rod.
