auto tranny fluid change

hey how is it going im planning on doing my tranny fluid changed soon(it for a 02 gle ) and wanted some info just to be sure. i have checked the DIY sticky but the link takes me to a vendor review. i know i got to drop the pan but whats the torque specs for bolts and is their a certain order i got to tighten the bolts, what fluid best to use oem or other if u can suggest and defiinatly wipe it down but do i need to change filter or is that built in to the pan and cant be replaced/removed. thanks

I believe there is a good write-up in the Fluids forum.

Dexron III/Mercon is the same as Nissan's ATF.

as scottwax said. i say just do a drain and fill a few times unless u really wanna drop the pan

just incase you don't know, when you click on the DIY sticky, and it takes you to a different thread, go up in the address bar, you'll see "show thread.." you need to erase "show" and type "old," so that part of the address will read "old thread" and that will take you to the correct page

The filter is nothing more than a screen, so I wouldn't even bother to replace it. Just for curiosity I dropped the pan and cleaned it, but the only way to replace ALL the fluid is to have it flushed.

all right thanks for the tips i tryed to go to the diy section again but no showthread oldthreaad its just linked to something else. but if i do drop the pan is their a certain way i got to bolt them back(cause i remember doind a engine rebuild and we had a chart that showed us which bolt to tighten u now not just going around to tighten them or do i just do one across from that bold for proper seal ) and also when i replace the gasket do i need any of that sealent stuff or just bolt on. thanks again for the tips

In my humble opionion its easier to disconnect the return line that comes from the radiator. Turn the car on for about 15 seconds and let the old fluid drain into a container. Turn the engine off and replace the same amount of fluid drained with fresh fluid at the dip stick tube. Repeat until you get that nice red color coming out. This method allows you to replace with all fresh fluid, and you never have to get under the car.
