Bosal OE replacment exhaust
#41
Paint the muffler and exhaust with some High temp paint 1200-1500 degree exhaust paint, you muffler and exhaust will last a little longer.......and butt those tips up to the rear muffler bulkhead and tack weld it with 3 or 4 each.....
#42
Yeah, the tip openings seem a little too big so they will definitely need to butt up against the muffler. Hope they won't sit too far back when it goes on the car.
#43
They won't......... you'll be very satisfied!!!!!! A friend of mine addedsome 3" exhaust tips to his factory muffler and painted the muffler black with HTP and it looks like a Pacesetter performance muffler and the tips fit perfect......
#44
Thanks man. That's good to hear. My muffler shop is installing it on Tuesday.

I did mine with 2.5" tips and I sorta regret it, since @ that time my 2.5" Cattman rear muffler was my alternate and the OEM muffler was the permanent w/the Cattman 2.5" bpipe, and the Cattman 3" tips were perfect for this car's rear valance exhaust cutout.....very sporty....kinda M3ish

I haven't put any tips on my bosal yet. Does anyone know the size needed. And yes some Bosal have the slanted tips and some don't. So far so good and the quality of the unit. It had a nice growl to it in the beginning but now it seems alot quieter. Maybe I am use to it or it really has grown quieter with use, either way a great value.

Let me get mine installed and I will let you know how it went. There seems to be a lot of play between the pipe and the tip opening so I'm not sure how they will work it out.

got the catback!
first of all autopartsway ftw! Ordered the stuff yesterday and got it delivered today (free shipping)...which brings me to my complaint! The pipes were shipped as is w/o any packaging! There are a bunch of dings here and there but nothing too noticeable..

IMO 5 years is pretty good for an aftermarket OE replacement exhaust in the North East.
I got my napa exhaust (bosal IIRC) in 04/2010 and mine rusted through at the back of the resonator in 08/2013. I welded it back together as much as possible, 6 months later 02/2014 starting to get noisy again.

Replacement
For muffler, you better off installing this

That's a Walker bpipe. Walker and Bosal seem to be about the same price/quality. I had a Walker muffler and bpipe at one point in time. Don't plan on them lasting long (2-3 years) but the Walker had a lifetime guarantee so even though it rotted out in 2 years I got a free new one which I promptly sold to someone else.

Bosal muffler loud?
I'm confused. Had a Bosal muffler and was fine to me. Rusted on top, and replacement I just got from rockauto is nasty sounding...unless..
A. The crush gasket isn't sealing...but I can't see any gaps and it looks uniform.
B. Upstream popped a hole somewhere while me working on it. Maybe had a weak spot?
Under the muffler it sounds quiet. Upstream listening makes it sound like the noise is in the rear somewhere. I wrapped a rag little by little on the gasket joint and it made no difference. It's crazy. It always sounds like it's coming from somewhere else.
I know you all can't diagnose from where you are...but I am stumped.
Thoughts? Hate to send it back if not defective.

Regarding Fed and Cali exhaust specs....
The Bosal resonator I have now that needs replacing is a Cali spec, something i just recently noticed when looking for a new one. At the time the parts place sold me the wrong part number I guess. It has worked and fit fine.
Rockauto has the Cali spec cheaper than Fed. Any reason why I should not repeat and buy the cheaper Cali when all I need is Fed spec?
The price difference is what tipped me off as usually it is cheaper $ for Fed spec.
Just wanting to do the cheapest route....
