D2R, if they are dim they might just need to be adjusted again. Or more likely they are just getting old. I wouldnt go over 4300k maybe as high as 5K if you want to upgrade. Not sure how much the stealership would want for them, but Ive seem aftemartket ones for anywhere from $50pr-180.

yah most likely your bulbs are getting old...get a new pair of bulbs and it'll be brighter...but stick with 4100-4300k if you want the most output. other higher K might look brighter but the output is not as good as stock.

what he said... and if you want quality, go with phillips D2R bulbs.. they'll look like halogens when you first put them in, but they'll eventually colorshift over to the white/blue color that you're used to in maximas.. the dealer bulbs are ASTRONOMICAL.. i was told over $200 per bulb.. you can get the same ones on ebay for around $100 a pair

as far as those knockoff aftermarket bulbs... most of them are crap.. i've tried a few of them, and they are consistently dimmer than stock bulbs, don't have much cutoff, and have a shorter beam pattern

It's not legal (though it varies by state), however, I have the 20000K (or what they "claim") bulbs, and I have never been stopped or bothered by any cops.

Regardless of what they say there are some good prices in the GD section with quality products.

Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, etc... are all illegal. Even in one of the most relaxed states like Florida it'll still get you a ticket. All depends on the po po.

If you want to spend the 120.00 or so then by all means do so. Or, you can spend the 45.00 dollars and get some quality bulbs with a WARRANTY from one of the vendors here in the org.

go for the OEM bulbs bro

i upgraded to 8000k after i did my 5.5 headlight retrofit in my 2001 gle, and i must admit....Im getting ready to switch back to the OEMs, as I NOTICE THEY ARE A HELLUVA lot brighter and had a better cut off.

granted i know with the bulbs i can get a decent pair of 6000k or 4300k from some one here......ill probably do that after the OEM ones i have finally decide to die

When someone tried to steal my passenger side headlight and damaged it, my friends body shop repaired the car and in the process got the insurance co. for 2 brand new Phillip HID bulbs. Saw the invoice and yes they are pricey 164.00 ea.. He got them from www.factorynissanparts.com......but I am sure you can get them cheaper somewhere else

they are SLOWLY colorshifting... i notice a slight difference between the headlights and foglights now, whereas when i first got them, they were the same color.. if you look at them though, they still look like halogens.. i guess it's still gonna take another couple months before they're white/blue

great job on regulating.

you should not upgrade the wattage of the bulb with your OEM HID system.

You can change up the D2R bulb to any temperature you'd like.

Kelvins does not indicate power, only color. With increase in kelvin comes decrease in lumens.

Great timing on this post.
Is all this the same for the 2003?
My passenger side popped on me yesterday and the stealership wants $233 each bulb!
I'm looking to replace the set, but it looks like i can only afford to replace the blown one first.
Any other suggestions?

I'm good for the moment, just purchased from NAPA autoparts for $94.
Couldn't ride around Memphis with just one headlight, the ticket for that is $70.

I did find a set online for $120 thanks to jkmay01. Thanks!
So i'll more than likely order those, but not sure what hue to get.
Suggestions?
6000K
8000K
I just dont know, LOL!

are they phillips D2R bulbs? as far as the temperature, it depends on what you're looking for.. color or visibility.. 6000k is usually a good mixture of both, but 4300k is the stock color temp. and will provide the best visibility.. the higher you go up in the temp. scale, the deeper blue the lights get, and worse the visibility gets

Just curious, are there any precautions you should take replacing HID bulbs vs standard halogens (like the high beams)?

Don't touch the lens, oils can destroy it.

So basically handle the same as the halogens then? There is a warning in the owner's manual about only letting the dealer change the HID bulbs due to high voltage (the ballast perhaps?).

Remove negative terminal from battery. Use some precaution and handle the base of the bulb. Remove and Replace said bulb. Reinsert into housing and clip in place. Replace negative terminal and your done.

I found it easier to remove the headlight to replace the bulbs. Mainly due to trying to get it to clip back properly and there's more room to work with.

i never used any special precautions and i swap my bulbs all the time.. just dont touch the actual glass part of the bulb.. handle the bulbs by the base, and you'll be good.. you dont need to unhook the negative terminal of the battery... just dont go touching a whole bunch of sh*t with the harness and you'll be alright

Hate that glove wearing generation....but I guess it goes hand-n-hand with that precautious condom practice...cover it up! Wipe the bulb down whether you touch it or not with alcohol, acetone or M.E.K. cause the packer may have touched it, and handle it @ the base only!

Gloves don't really help you get the oil from your hands on the glove when you put it on so even if you touch the bulb with gloves you still risk transfering oil onto it. Just be careful and if you even think you touched it clean it with rubbing alchol.

have you ever seen what happens if you don't connect the bulb into an aftermarket HID system, the positive and negative connector can create an arc of current. Its pretty cool, but dangerous. Something that really isn't anything to worry about.

it basically becomes a tazer....(don't taz me bro)
