Need new fog lights, any suggestions?

I know I know, this has been covered before so please do not flame. I live up in the mountains somewhat upstate ny and with snow season coming I need some reliable fogs. 1st off I had the oem ones in my car which got the job done....kinda..... but today when I arrived at work I noticed that my front left one was broken. It is often foggy here and it gets tough to see at times. From what i've read 3000k are probably my best option but I don't know where I could get the best deal on them and what installation intails. Also I dont know if the new fogs come with the new fog cover since thats broken on my current ones. thanks in advnace

I'd stick with 4k-8k HID's, and new foglights will come with the whole foglight assembly. And the foglight HID install looked like a pain the but to do, and I'd probably mess something up. But I just don't like messing with electrical stuff. I'd rather pay someone and have peace of mind. But it's all relative, maybe you're really good with wires and such?

Well installing can be a pain but theres a good write-up somewhere with a little search. i have 3k in my fogs for the 03 and its bright in the rain and fog down here by the jersey shore. Anyway installing took me not that long following Zippin's write up and other sources here.

here are some helpful links that helped me out when i did my HID Fogs:
Fog light removal:

HID install writeup

Hope this helps.

I got my kit from here http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html they are the cheapest place around and have a lifetime warrenty on the balasts/ignightors (seperate pieces) and awsome customer service I paid $125 shiped overnight. I've had them for 5 months now and they are still working fine. Install was pretty simple it comes with the wires fitted through a 1" gromet so all you need to do is make a hole in the dustcover to seal them up and interface the factory harnes to the balast power conection it comes with blade conectors I just cut them off and spliced the wires to the factory harness so it just plugs into the factory conector for power. For the H3 bulbs I chose not to use the grommet and just cut the wires put them through the dust cap and spliced them back together, and sealed the factory hole in the dustcap with some tape and silicone. Deffinatly go with the 3000k bulbs if you have a lot of fog anything higher won't work. We have very little fog around here so I chose to match mine to my headlights but when it's foggy they are totaly usless.

Reading your post - it's kind of unclear whether you need to replace the Housing for the fogs AND the bulbs, or just the Bulbs???

Unfortunately - you're in for a price shock if you need to buy replacement lenses...OEM is the only source, and they are almost $200 for the pair.

Good suggestions on HID kits...I agree -- these are worth the money.
I think you've got the right number (3k) for FOG ONLY...but you can probably get a bit more versatility out of them if you go with a more stock (4300k) color.

Good luck.

I have a guy who could probably grab me a new lens from a junk yard, I just need the actual light. I would probably have someone install them for me because this seems too likely for me to mess something up. seems like i'm leaning twords 3000ks. johny could you give me a direct link to the ones you bought? Price is very good

Its the first kit on the link I gave you the DDM 35w with the slim balasts. I highly recomend these guys very helpful plus they give a lifetime warrenty if somthing breaks just send it back and they'll send you a new one I've had mine for 6 months now and have no issues. The only thing I don't like is the noise they make when you first turn them on its like a high pitched buzz/whine but goes away after 10 seconds or so. PM me if you need any help with the install. For the fog lense I think you can just get the housing from courtsy parts if you cant find it at a junk yard just buy the housing not the whole assembly it'll save you $40. http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1996_2006.html

I found a complete fog light housing on eBay for 60 bucks shipped. If you need good output from your fogs, get a 3000k or 4300k HID kit. AFAIK, most HID kits are pretty much plug n play into the housing these days, you just need to figure out where to secure the ballasts.

As for yellow vs. white beams, I believe the jury is still out as to whether yellow really helps that much in fog. Bottom line is that the beam is low and wide. Ideally, if you're 25 feet from a wall, the fog light beam focal point should be around 4 inches below the bulb height on the car. So if the distance from the ground to your fog bulbs is 10", then the focal point of the beams on the wall, 25 ft away, should be 6" off the ground.

Stay away from that cheap Ebay crap!! Just buy the Factory Oem foglight kit, it's cheaper than the foglight assemblies individually. I was able to purchace mine from Courtesy Nissan several yrs back...just make sure you protect the lense with a clear protective pressure tape/film from either Lamin-X.com or Weathertech.com. The reason I would stay away from Ebay/oem non Nissan parts are for quality issues, such as thinner glass more prone to crack from bulb heat, height adjustment screw is harder to adjust cause it's a phillips instead of a hex like on the Nissan Oem's....Now regarding the HID upgrade, it's very easy and straight fwd threre's no need for a shop to do this or anything else as far as I'm concerned!

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but my 02 needs new lenses for the fogs (mine are both destroyed from 6 years of rocks), and I was thinking to do a 3000k HID conversion on them at the same time. Do the HID fogs end up with a bunch of glare, or are they pretty good in that regard?

Buy a complete foglight kit which is the light stalk, relay and 2 lamp assy's. These can be acquired from ABC Nissan for a bargain price. It's cheaper to buy the kit than to buy the the foglight lamps individually. Once you do get them be sure to apply a protective film to them. I replaced mine 5 yrs ago and I've been HID'd for over a yr on the fogs.

Is this the kit you're referring to at ABC Nissan? (is there a .org discount for them?) You suggest this protective film (or similar) for them?

Any suggestions for the 3000k HID kit? How is the DDM 35W kit for $60?

Seems to be correct -- but looking @ the details, I have NO IDEA what you're paying $156.00 for????

The Kit i bought included the full lens/bulb + left turn signal/stalk w. switch, AND the relays for both.

Is this JUST the lenses and bulbs??

That seems to be a good price -- but what's in the KIT???

Yeah, that's the Foglight Kit which includes the L/h & R/h foglight units, foglight/turn signal switch, 1 relay and 4 m6 nuts... cheaper than 1 foglight assy($190) and yes that's for 2002-03!
