Time to Winterize... Help me save some $$

I have a 2000SE w/ 102k mi in Boston, MA I'm virtually certain I will need two new tires and pretty sure I'll need new pads all around and maybe even rotors? Eghad!

Two things I'm wondering. For the tires, can you recommend a good all weather tire for no more than $200 or so-EACH. Maybe a bit more. I have the 17" tire option with 225/50R17. I do mostly city driving and need good traction for this winter. Not really looking for uber 'performance' tires. I have the potenza 225/50R17's (I think stock?) which were dreadful, and at times dangerous, last winter.

What is a good way to measure my rotors. Not very 'fix-it-yourself' auto savvy, so what do I need and how do I go about doing so? Can I buy a electronic caliper? Where on the rotors do I measure? I've only owned the car for 2 1/2 years and replaced only the front rotors/pads in that time (over 23k mi since).

Thoughts?

1ST!

only replace your rotors if they are 'warped' other then that don't touch them. they should be fine after 23k. ..

tirerack has more reviews then members on this site. i would go there for help picking tires.

Fellow new englander are you saying 200 for all 4 tires or 200 ea. I think when it comes to tires you should not cut corners especially here in Boston where the weather sucks. I have Potenza 960 a/s tires and they were great last winter so I recommend them but they are pricey, I think they are about 150-170 ea now......

$200 each, maybe a bit more.... Of course if I can get tow tires with great traction for $150-200ea that will be great.

As for rotors, how can tell they are warped? I originally replaced the front rotors 30 months ago because of horrible brake 'jutter' when braking. Is it possible to determine warping without removing the wheel? There is no vibration on the steering when when I slow to a stop.

Check out this thread. http://forums.maxima.org/tires-wheel...re-thread.html

I'd recommend the Goodyear ResponsEdges. It's little pricey but rides so much better that the Potenzas. Check out my thread. http://forums.maxima.org/tires-wheel...dge-tires.html

As for your rotors, just get them re-surfaced. Cost me $50 per rotor but I gave my cousin the business because he was rotating/balancing the tires, and installing my new brake pads at the same time.

Finally brake pads, go Hawk HPS or Akebono Street Performance.

tirerack is expensive. try discounttires.com...look in the wheels and tires section of the forum for more help. I'm also in the market for tires and possibly some tokico illuminas.
