This has been a real pain in the @#$ for over 4 years. I've tried applying silicon spray to the seals which helped a little, but the squeeking always comes back.
this summer I had a shop pull the panel and they lubbed some of the mechanisim and this did help - the squeek was gone for 3 months, but is back again.

Does anyone know what is causing this and what the fix is? I'd hate to sell a perfectly good car because of a squeek. Also, it squeeks both going up and down.

I guess the seal around the window frame needs to be replaced.
btw, I haven't been using my windows for a long time, I don't think I need to open the window when it's 30F outside.

I bit the bullet and called a dealer.
There is a service bulitin on this.
apparenlty it is a rubber seal that the window rides in that is inside the door.
the part is $150 and $180 labor to install - so I said lets do it.

WHAAAAAA?! I know the seal you are talalking about, there is a rail inside the door and the rubber piece is held onto the rail be tension THATS IT! If your are even remotely handy you can do this. Christ, even a regulater is cheaper than that me thinks. I think the dealer is taking you for ride. There is nothing in the door that cannot be replaced, especially a rubber seal that cannot be replaced within half an hour. Even by a novice. If a nissan tech needs 2 hours to install it, he is an ***.

Id have to agree with you on that one..........150 dollar RUBBER PART!!!!! THATS NUTS, then a 180 labor fee!....i can see 50-80 bucks for labor fine...but for almost 350 bucks....dave b here i come, and ill do it myself

if verbal abuse doesn't work for you, physical abuse works for me almost without exception. unfortunately it is my passenger side window that squeaks so i had to put a stick in my car so i could take care of business...

Well,
of course after I told the dealer to order the part, I went home from work and tried what I read on one of the threads on this topic.
I lowered the window and sprayed a generous amount of silicon on each verticle window runner and viola - no more noise. seems just cleaning these didn't do the trick or appling the silicon on a rag didn't deposit enough silicon to do the job.

So I called the dealer and canceled the part order - this was the hardest ordeal in this whole thing. I had to talk to the manager to get them to reverse the charges on my credit card.

Whiew - that was a close one - and saved $300

it'll come back every few months. just as long as you didn't use anything with petroleum in it. apparently it swells the rubber and it'll start popping out (like mine) I'll be changing my window rails soon. 100 something for the part and i'm gonig to take the door apart to help ease the labor cost.

This sounds like a really 'brown' thing to do (I am brown). But take the corner of a cloth, dowse it in some Meguiars NXT Detail, and run it up and down the runners. Make sure you clean it first thought. My guess is that the rubber gets dry, and that is what causes the squeak. I've been doing this for the last year. I need to re-apply once every six months, not bad. I don't think I will keep the car long enough to have that out do the cost of getting the whole seal replaced.
