A test pipe that fits or Stock cat as test pipe?

Does anyone know what is the length of a test pipe have to be for a 5.5? IS there any place online I can get it? Or if you got it custom made, how much was the total cost?

I remember that a while back I read somewhere you can use the stock cat as a test pipe by knocking everything out of the cat. Does this work or does it cause problems?

I see some test pipes on Ebay but I believe these do not fit. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I see lengths of 12.5", 13.5", and 14.5". Are any of these the right one?

The stock cat is 12.5" from flang to flang. I know for a fact that the megan test pipe is 13.5" you can MAKE it fit. But as someone with one, don't.

Honestly Im in the same boat. The test pipe I have now pushed the whole exhaust back 1" which is enough for the section near my RSB to bang against each other every now and then.

You could always buy one and then take it to a muffler shop and have them cut it to correct size.

Pull the cat and take it to an exhaust shop. It comes out very easy. Have them make one with that as a guide. All it is is a straight pipe with two flanges on it. It's an easy job for a good shop and they wont be breaking any laws by removing a cat.

If you hollow out the stock cat it sounds really funny because of the way it increases in diameter.

Mine was made too big as well. So I took it to work cut it in half then trimmed 1" off and re-welded it. Not sure why all companies out there make them way too big.

Just leave the cat alone. Running a test pipe will do more harm than good. Dont pollute mother earth or Al Gore will come bite your head off!

12.5 sounds right, I don't have it anymore since I got the bung for my wideband installed.

Really don't want to bump this but it's pointless starting a new thread...
anyways, will the s13 240sx test pipe fit? This looks like the flanges are shifted a bit. Is it the same on the Maxima?

you could just have an exhaust shop take a piece of 3'' pipe and weld flanges on it for you if you cant find one.

FWIW: The 4th Gen test pipes are the correct length and fitment. And they are usually cheap on eBay.

I was looking at those the other day. I'm gonna see if I can compare my stock cat to the cat on a friends 240.

Maxima exhaust isn't 3" so no, it won't fit.

Just get a Maxima test pipe off of ebay.

I have a 3" exhaust so it would be complementary instead of a 2.5"

I finally got my 4th gen cat next to a 240 cat. They look identical. Same flange angles and both cats are the same length.

The 240 cat is still connected to the rest of the exhaust in these pictures.
