My WRX sounded just like that when it had damaged rod bearings. Does it seem to be coming from the top or the bottom of the engine?

That's where I thought my knocking noise was coming from before (now the engine is seized apparently ).

I can't really hear much in the vid, though.

Kiss keep it simple stupid. Check the timing chain tensioner first. Then check compression on all cylinders. It could be as bad as a bearing and or lifters going bad. It does not sound like a spun bearing yet. Oh and above all, Change oil try a thicker oil 10 30. Or 5 40. You could try Lucas, but I tend to stay away from that stuff. Snake oil. When they put a mechanic in a bottle ill try it. How many miles and what year. Obviously a 3 litre.

Are you running synthetic or Dino oil?. Change oil first then check for other stuff. You state it's a 2000 with 10,900 mls. Regardless of milage years of service weather driven or not add to wear and tear to all parts, mechanical and otherwise.
