Breaking in a new Maxima?

I have a 2 week old 2k2 Maxima SE. In the instruction manual, it says you should avoid driving at constant speeds for the first 1,000 miles. So far I have about 150 miles on it.
I am considering taking it for a 2-3 hour (each way) highway road trip this weekend. Since I'll be on the highway, I will mostly be driving at a constant speed.
Is this a bad move? Or is the 1,000 mile rule not that important?

I'm guessing that most people around here will recommend against the highway trip idea... However, as long as you mix it up some (vary speed & rpm) it shouldn't do anything to hurt your car. I hope not, I sort of broke mine in on the highway

Don't worry about it. It's not going to hurt anything. Ideally, you want to try and vary your RPMS every couple minutes, while staying under 3000 rpms.

Just don't use cruise control and try not to flog it too bad in the first 1K miles. You'll be there soon enough, so enjoy the restraint cause afterwards you'll really be amazed/appreciate the POWER.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just as long as you don't go over 3K RPM, you should be fine. I broke mine in on the freeway...

Yeah, go between 45 and 60 mph perhaps. If there are hills then it might be hard to stay below 3000 rpm.

What do the Honda people do during break in period? Under 3000 rpm those engines don't do much?! When I tested the Integra GSR it didn't seem fast until I hit 4,500rpm+.

Hmm.. When I bought my Maxima '01 I broke it in for about 600 miles. Speeds varying from 0-70.. Mostly around 60-65 though.. Was a mixture of both local and highway. Lil more local though.. Once I broke it in, I started flyin like a mad man!!

When I was breaking in my Integra, keeping it under 3k was extremely hard...then again, I did hit 5k to break up the monotany every once in a while...those engines run more efficient at higher RPM's.
