Auto dimming mirror wiring harness

Does anyone know that part number to the wiring harness to the OEM auto dimming mirror (w/o compass and thermometer)?

The 4 or 5 pin connector? AFAIK that's a part of the room lamp harness. There are some universal harnesses online, check the manufacturer name on the mirror, then search for '$name wiring harness'.

Well it's off a 5.5 gen. I have no idea what the manufacture name is. I'll ask the seller. Thanks.

I believe the mirrors used on the 5.5 gens were made by Gentex.

If not, I'll have to get some wire to make it run all the way down the A-pillar.

There's a constant B+ to the map light, so you could hook it up there, but it could very well drain the battery. Do you have a sunroof?

Wire it up to the sunroof power supply then, since that's switched.

Okay, do you know which wires need to be connected? Will it just be positive and negative or will I have to ground one, too?

There'll be a power and a ground, at the sunroof switch it should be red and black wires, respectively.

I have a problem. For some reason the mirror is not dimming. I bought the harness and plugged it into the back of the mirror. I spliced the red wire of the harness to the red wire of the sunroof. I spliced the black AND green wires from the harness to the black wire of the sunroof (per the instructions given with the harness). Still, the dimming function is not working and I have no idea why?

Any ideas?

Quick question: I already have a dimming mirror in my 01, so if I were to get a dimming/compass mirror, would I have to buy a new wiring harness, or will the one that's already there suffice?

Anyone have an auto-dimming mirror with 35% tint? If so, do you have any dysfunction in your mirror dimming?

I have 15% tint and my mirror seem to dim like it used to. It will, when someone has lights that are angled just right at the sensor.

When the mirror is correctly installed, is there a light on it that actually indicates whether it is working?

This is driving me crazy

After having the the mirror on for nearly four months and not having a dimmer I'm fed up.

I took apart the quick splices and found that they had barely scathed the wires going to the mirror because they are such a small diameter.

To fix this, I decided to solder the wires together, with success. Here is a picture of red wire from mirror to red wire of sunroof. Then the black wire and green wire go to the black wire of sunroof which I assume is ground. Solders were clean, checked the continuity and it was good before I put the liquid insulation on (which you can see in the picture).

I plugged it in an turned the car on and no dice. I didn't receive an answer of whether a light turns on on the mirror but if it does, it didn't for me. I tested the auto dim and that didn't work either. I've tried two different mirrors with no luck.

What is going on here? BTW, sunroof works fine so I didn't mess anything there up.

Have you tested for power at your connections? Green wire from the sunroof motor is not ground, it's 12v. Ground will be black.

EDIT: Maybe I'm not reading the diagram correctly, but the red wire to the sunroof motor is for the switch. If you push the button to open the moonroof, does the mirror turn on?

I checked it again and I guess I couldn't find a straight power directly from the switch. I changed my plans. I soldered on longer wire (benched tested it and finally made sure it worked - the light lit up!) and am going to run it down the A-Pillar to the cigarette lighter lead.

I use a circuit tester to the connector going to the sunroof. Instead of lighting up at any of the pins, it actually activated the sunroof. One pinned, open, the other closed, one tilted, the other un-tilted and the other two did nothing.

Thanks for the help, though. Once I run the wires I'm sure I'll be GTG.

EDIT: BTW, in the picture, you're seeing the black and green wires from the mirror soldered to the BLACK ground wire of the sunroof switch and the red wire to the red wire in the switch.
