Bad battery now whining/whirring noise?

I was leaving school today because of the cold weather and snow.

I turned my car on and turned the wipers on to get rid of the white stuff and noticed that my wipers were moving a little slow ( i think ya there's like 5 pounds of snow on my windshield.) I then turn on the radio and lights and my car acts like its about to stall out and the usual abs lights, etc. come on.

I turned the key off because it was freaking out then tried to start it again and it just clicks..

Great my battery just died. I get someone to jump me and I'm on my way.

I notice that if I turn anything on all of the lights dim and the abs light comes on (i never make the same mistake twice) i leave it running hoping it would charge the battery.

Well now the car makes a weird whining noise near the belt area (not 100% sure though)

I find out the battery is just toast so I buy a new one.

But the noise is still there. Any thought? loose belt maybe?

I would get a charging system test done before replacing anything.

Whining noise from that area usually means the alternator's going to pass away.
