Been up here since July 2008 from Southern California.

I park on a hill, and have to turn the wheels in case the brakes fail to make the car roll into the curb. Now I notice in the morning when I start the car and turn the steering wheel, I get groaning and whining noises from the power steering pump area.

After driving for 45 min to an hour, the noise goes away. My first thoughts are to replace the power steering pump. Anyone else had this happen?

-Thanks!!

I would try replacing the fluid first. Then if that doesnt fix it, replace the pump.

Any special steps to replace the fluid? Someone I asked in person suggested looking at the fluid level.

Here's a sticky discussion in the fluids and lubricant forum.

The idiot light must have been broken, the power steering fluid was pretty low. Topped it off with some generic junk + stop leak = no more noise.

Copy that on the flush. I'll take a look at getting it done over the weekend. That damn hose connects at the bottom of the reservoir, it'll be tricky to get a funnel down there to collect the fluid.

You can add Blinker fluid to your Power Steering light so it can work again w/o having to replace it.

Is there a link in the NW members forum, also I searched for this on the web and didn't see much. But yes, if I read more about the meet, I would attend.

You mean a 240 meet with some "other" cars. Unfortunately that meet has gotten too big for where it's at, and groups of people are too divided (think partisan politics on steriods). 240 guys don't appreciate anything other than a 240 (I had a few of them knocking my S/C'ed 4th gen, just because I was FWD). All the Z/G guys are uber elites. Many maxima guys are bitter from the debacle 2 years ago still (understandably...but I personally gotten over it). The only really cool thing to see at the meet is the old school Datsun's. But that's my opinion, and it's besides the point of this thread.

RR5, if you decide you want some help with the PS, let me know. I might have some free time to lend a hand.

Isn't there a link on maxima forums for this meet? I found one on another forums, but want to see who among the maxima crowd will be going.
