HALO headlights with HID conversion

As you guys may be aware a bunch of scumbags stole my front bumper and headlights off my 02 max:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ts-bumper.html

I guess I have a choice depending if insurance doesnt screw me with value, of either getting the stock NIssan HID's again or going with HALO lights ($230.85) plus HID conversion kit ($150.00).

http://www.viniati.com/0003-nissan-maxima-halo-head-lights-chrome-p-23034.html

I'd like to get impressions on this. This may be like welcome back to 2003, this is an old mod but hey I just got the car not too long ago and unfortunately someone's got my lights.

This website give you a 1year warranty

questions for people that have done it, didn't find lots of info here though:

a) As website states 00-03, will any year assembly fit without leaving gaps? I heard from a few people that 01 lights leave a gap between them and the bumper in the 02 body

b) Is quality of lights good? HID conversion of good quality?
c) Believe the only thing extra to wire up is the halo rings, everything else uses stock connectors, is that so?

thanks

Do a search for "ebay projectors" and you'll find your answer.

i guess it depends on how much money they give you and what you want to do with it,.. nothing really compares to stock.. FWIW- you could just put 00-01 headlights on ur 03 bumper and prob pick up a set for 50-75 bucks,.. and a hid kit for 50-75 bucks,.. and save yourself about 700-900 bucks... nothing wrong with saving money but nothing beats OEM

thanks
a) No gaps with OEM bumper in my '00. There were gaps with my Sarona bumper but those are fixed now.

b) Build quality of lights is average, I have torn mine apart for my TSX lense and CCFL angel eye retrofit and the overall quality is average but definately not poor.

The quality of the projector itself (the lens) is poor, the light pattern is diffuse and it leaves a lot to be desired.

c) Main harness, and turn signal harness plug right into your OEM connectors. Its a piece of cake. Only thing you would need to do in addition to this is solder the angel eye wires to the parking light power source -this is optional but it shouldnt take more than 20 mins if you have experience working with wiring.

IMO I would go with whatever is cheaper. If you put a good set of Halogen bulbs in the projectors and aim them properly, the output is AT LEAST as good as OEM without HID. My suggestion is that if you do get the projectors to go with an HID kit though.

thanks for detailing your reply

As far as wiring the extra set of wires for the halos is no big deal, piece of cake to do.

Now, I was talking to another company via e-mail and he was stating that the stock wiring is only meant for HID. So I told them about the retrofit kit to make them HID and they still said won't work. Doesn't make sense what they said, I mean if you convert them to HID then it should work, shouldn't it?

the beam will probably look pretty bad, especially with HID. Maybe go the Projector headlights route?
The one's that I have on my car have been retrofitted with HID projectors and re-wired to work with them

Stock wiring for HID only? I doubt that.

If by retrofit you mean making the projectors HID, then I dont see what the problem would be.

I can only speak for installing the projectors & HIDs in a 00-01..I am not 100% sure what the HID wiring looks like in an HID-equipped 02-03 but my best guess would be that you wont have problems retrofitting HIDs into projectors..maybe someone with projectors in an 02-03 can chime in here...

Hey, I got the following response from an ebay seller about the halo projectors

Dear Value Customer,

The lights are HID compatible, but we don't recommend our customer to use the HID kits with the Halo projector headlights since HID are running under high temperature which may damage the headlights frame. If you choose to have a HID install, we suggest you question to a professional mechanics first and install at your own risk.
Thank you very much for your inquiry.

Best Regards,
Emily

I dont think you will have any problems. No melting of the "frame", no damage to the projector. I have heard stories of Civic guys who had the plastic headlight covering turn yellow due to the increased temperature but I have been running HIDs in my headlights for over 2 years with absolutely no discoloration, melting, or frame damage of any kind. Even internally, there were no effects -I found this out when I opened up my headlights last summer for my retrofit.

ok so let me get this straight, you went with a set of projectors and then installed a HID kit.
How is the lighting quality of these projectors with the HID kit installed vs Nissan factory HID?

Let's try this again.

I have a 5.5 gen and I love the dark light look of the M1RAG3's whip. Is it possible to just have my current lights painted? If I wanted to purchase a pair outright and not use my current stock lights, would I have to buy a new pair of lights and have those painted or is there a way I can find them already colored black? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this subject.

Thanks

If this is a serious response then I guess I will be keeping my stock lights the way they are.

Then again, I will take your advise and do more research.
