walling trunk
walling trunk
I am thinking about putting 2 15's in my trunk and walling it off. I was wondering if i could remove the black metal pieces shown in these pictures without any negative effects on my car's body or structural integrity.

You should put the two speakers in custom boxes on either side of the rear trunk where the car jack is stored and face them inward, that would be pretty sick. Im thinking about doing that with a single 12 on one side and the amp on the other. How much bass do you really need!!??
If you want to go with overpriced goods, follow this advice. There are many more lesser-known brands that will outperform a W7 at a far lesser cost.
i seriously doubt it is structural for the chasis but it probably provides some support for the rear seats. If you want to get rid of it and never have any rear passengers i say go for it
It is structural. Since there is a pass thru, that has to be there to support the frame work, deck, etc. If there was no pass thru you would have seen a cross brace or two instead.
The seats do not need that support. They are already structural in themselves.
It is. Prevents the strut towers from crumpling. From the mouth of a very experienced body shop owner himself.
sundown audio sae-1200d niceee
I almost got one but the price difference compared to audioque's 1200 made me change my mind.
And i dont want to remove any of the white metal just the black metal. Mostly where it covers my rear shock mounts. As you see in my picture my left one is only bolted down with one bolt for what ever reason.

There is an Audioque 10 inch sub that will get alot louder and will sound awsome compared to the 13w7, and can put twice the power to the Audioque, plus JL is not as good as everyone thinks, way over priced for what you get
So far everybody says not to remove it. But it seems like i'v already been driving around with it removed around the shocks for 10k+miles...
I'm looking into removing just the black steel around my shocks and quite possibly all of it regardless of what people say. I'v seen a couple walled cars with quite a lot of rear support removed.
Are you trying to remove that black support and replace with a wall of subs, front firing? I would imagine that a piece of 5/8's MDF or such would provide similar support to whats there. Just get some nuts and bolts and use the same holes that are in the car. Something like this?
You are an idiot for removing an integral part of the structure of the car. You may be fine driving around for 10k miles or whatever. You may not notice any different while driving, but watch your car crumple like a piece of paper if you get hit or are in any accident at all.
An MDF or whatever board would be better than nothing, but I still VERY strongly suggest keeping the plate and braces in. It still does leave plenty of room for plenty of setup options. See my sig for a PRACTICAL approach.

I'm slowly starting to consider fixing my maxima up.
