speedo reading off
speedo reading off
my 02 maxima with 3.5 auto has speedo trouble, and it is realy confusing.when tested it said right front sensor bad.the sensor has 12 volts to it,so i changed the sensor.nothing happened.i put it on the lift and checked the exiter rings and found the right side one a little messed up so i changed the axle, still nothing.the guy who had it before me changed both sensors on transmission and tried to change the speedo.still no change.i checked grounds and added a trans ground nothing changes. i have a code p1574 and the speedo reads 30 when going about 55.abs light comes on after moving about 5 mph.has anyone every had a problem like this?any idea on what to replace next or check next.also cruise does not work, assuming it is related to speedo inop?any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

The speedo sensor is in the transmission. The sensor you are talking about changing is for the ABS system, as is the exciter ring. Those have nothing to do with your speedo. The speedo and ABS are two different systems. Sounds like you are trying to fix one by troubleshooting the other. A speedo being off will not cause an ABS code, your most likely getting an ABS code because one of your wheel sensors is not reading correctly. The ABS system checked for differences in wheel speed, if the difference is too great, it assumes there is a bad sensor and you get a code. You need to start troubleshooting each system seperately, or your just going to keep throwing money away. Start by downloading an FSM.
I unpluged the right front abs sensor and drove it around the parking lot,the speedometer does not work at all with the sensor unplugged, spits out code p0500.hook the sensor back up and the speedometer is back to working but off 10-15 mph on the slow side.does the signal get fed to the tcm first then to the cluster?I am convinced that the wheel speed sensors do have something to do with the speedo reading.

First off, check you speed sensor that's on the tranny itself. I know the older maximas (4th gen) had a separate computer for the ABS system and the tranny and ABS were completely two different systems. I am sure that on the 5.5 gens though, alot of different systems are combined together but I do not know the extent of different systems working together as one.
What you are saying about unplugging the abs sensor and speedo not working sounds strange to me, I would have not guessed that it would behave in such a way.
Anyways, double check ALL fuses in the car.

i am sure that both front abs sensors are good,i have ohmed them both out.both exiter rings in good condition, this should not be a problem.checked conector at abs pump and it is clean and looks to be in good shape.connections at speedo head ar ok and i can do a self test at speedo that passes.i am down to the abs module and the tcm as possible concerns?does anyone know if the speed signal runs to the tcm before it goes into the cluster?
