New Maxima, new problems!

Hi guys i used to be a 4th gen owner until my car got crushed by a huge sign that fell during a wind storm..

anyhow today i purchased a 5th gen maxima, was really stoked on getting it. 2000 black on black se, 135k..

anyhow so im in the parking lot and i decide to see it accelerate, i put it into second and floor it out of 2nd.. as i was getting to 6.5k rpms i was running out of parking lot room so i braked dropped it into neutral..

HERES THE PROBLEM: rpms stayed at 6.5k!! revving really high, car is in neutral. i got scared and quickly shut it off. anyone know what that could be, i just bought her and its been a downer to me. thanks!

faulty throttle position sensor? Hook that sucker up to a diag, I'm sure it'll show up. Did the pedal get stuck?

I assume you're auto correct? Has the car driven normal after that?

get your codes checked. my guess is your throttle stuck open either at the pedal or at the throttle itself. how does your pedal feel when you go through the motion? is it nice and smooth? I would personally check for build up at the throttle body end

Also check to make sure the cable is not sticking. It could be frayed at some position and will not allow it to retract to home position.

Definitely check the throttle cable and the throttle body. It sounds like something got stuck. have someone push the pedal down (with the car off) while you observe to see if it snags on anything.
