Raced a Malibu

i know its nothing exciting, but i still got the kill.

1st run was both of us at a light i pulled real bad on him and ended up about 1 car length ahead by 60mph, i know he had mods probably intake and for sure an exhaust.

the 2nd run we lined up again at a light and an eclispe decided to line up as well, all three of us took off and i had them beat from the start, by the time i knew it i had at least a car and half lead,
we all gave each other nods and thumbs up as i turned off.

Re: Re: Raced a Lumina

That was a very fair race.
Ran a 328i with intake today, pulled on me on the launch all the way up to around 60-75, after that i pulled on him 1/4-1/2 car length up to 100something, shutdown after that. Mountain roads ahead

what kind of Lumina was it? Their standard 3.1L is a POS. There're ones w/3.4 engine, they have over 200hp. Also, there're police package 3.4 Luminas with dual exhaust, after '95.

3.4L Luminas are rare. More often it is 3.1L 140hp 188lbs/ft V6, if you're talking '90-'94 models. I owned a 93 Gr Prix (read: the same car)prior to my Maxima and read the owners manual. Some of those came w/3.4L and 5spd tranny. But that was like before 1996 model year.

I hope you were shifting at 4k RPM's or something if you only beat a Malibu by 1 car to 60. Your car should be several seconds faster to 60 than his which is a whole lotta car lengths more than one.

The LTZ Lumina is the same engine as the Monte Carlo i think?? which was like 200 hp....

However, my friend used to have a 1995 dual exhaust Lumina 3.4L it was listed at 215 hp... That sucker would pull on me off the line when I had my 93 SE Maxima w/ 190 hp... both of us are autos... I would start to catch up to him around 80 but we never had the chance to go any faster.

It's no comp. for a 5th gen though

Actually, Malibu's feel pretty fast. My cousin rented one and let me use it for the day and it was pretty peppy. I think it just comes with the v6 now. I think they dropped the 4banger.

yes, you said it right, it feels fast. They dropped 4 bangers, and now it is a 175hp 3.1 motor

One of the reasons the Malibu 'feels' fast is the non-linear throttle control. On that car, just pressing the throttle even 1/4 of the way opens it up quite a bit. But, if you keep pressing it, the throttle doesn't open up much more after that. It is a cheap way to make the car 'feel' faster. I have had the malibu as a rental a few times and every car feels this way. In fact, the throttle on the rental ford taurus I have feels the exact same way.
