Installed my COSMO CAI, today

I woke up early this morning, (6 am) and carefully removed the stock airbox and all its associated parts. I wanted a Fujita but of course they don't make one for the 5.5's so on the advice of a fellow orger I bought a COSMO CAI. I took my time assembling it and ensuring that I didn't damage the air mass sensor or scratch the blue painted tubing that I chose to get.

After about 3hrs I was done. I took it for a quick test run down the block and the sound and feel is amazing. The car now has a more pronounced growl if I lay into it, and under the hood looks a lot less cluttered without that big black blob the stock airbox was. I know times are hard, but if you can scrape up $140 I definitely recommend getting a COSMO or some other aftermarket ram air or cold air intake.

I got mine for the slight hp gain and sound it produced, but the look under the hood, (at least to me) is just an added bonus.

Here are the pictures, the first is a before shot. the 2nd is a straight on and the 3rd is from the right side. Now that I have more room under the hood I have more things to clean and shine as well.

^ Pics work for me.

Good job to the OP. Any issues with SES lights or engine pinging with this?

Looks like it moves the filter out of the way of the cooling fans-appears to be under the battery?

No issues at all, and I've put about 60 miles on it today alone after the install. I did have to reset my sunroof though, but that was because I left it open last night and for the install you have to disconnect the battery.

Damn 3hrs is a long time. Congrats though, it looks like an Injen. The blue kinda sticks out though. Thats a quick fix. All you gotta do is paint a few more things in the engine bay blue and you'll be good.

The actual install took about 2.5 hrs, I made sure that I labelled the stock airbox in case I want to put it back in. I also found myself cleaning up the hoses and wires that were under the stock box as well. As for the color I wanted something under the hood other than chrome. I'm gonna get the engine cover airbrushed to match my r/c cars that I race.

This intake is just like the injen's and that one sucks. I use to have a injen intake and your going to find out what I did. Where that intake bolts to your block its going to transfer a ton of heat and warm your intake. Also being in between the block and battery its like a little intake toaster oven. Its going to only do you good on super cold days. I ran a Track day and it was 102 degree's. My car started to sputter and acted like it wanted to shut down. I pulled into the pits and the intake tube was so hot I couldnt touch it. So we hit it with a laser heat temp gun and it was 181 degrees. My choice of words when I seen that would get me banned off this site so I will keep um to myself. I ended up taking off the lower tube and cutting it to run out the side like a berk for the day. I went home and took it off immediately. I hate to say it but you need to take it back off and go get a frankincar or berk intake.

It dose look nice though :-)

Revs2hard, I didn't attach mine to the bolt on the side of the engine. Another orger gave me a heads up on the heat transfer issue. I adjusted fire and twisted my tubing so it sits closer to the battery. If it still gets warmer than usual I have some high heat resistant insulation that I can cut and position between the engine and the down tubing.

i deff lost low end power with my car, but im sure u 3.5 guys and ur torque dont really notice as much

what filter are u running, the filter that came with mine fell apart really fast, so i replaced it with a universal K&N and havent looked back

I definitely like the way it looks besides the color just my pop. I like to stay a little more subtle but to each his own. I just wish gains were better. It would be nice if someone came out with one like the place racing one I believe alot more people would buy it.

didnt your mom tell you not to say anything if you have nothing nice to say ?
i just picked up a used Injen myself , and after reading on here about it placing the filter behind the rad i was unsure but i got it cheao . But after installing it i realized it places the filter under the battery , which is less than a foot from "the other" CAI filter location ya'll speak so highly of. as far as temperature problems if im not mistaken unless you use NWp intake spacers no matter where you put your intake Injen or Place Racing by the time the air enters the plenum its 4million degress anyhow .
in conclusion , that Cosmo looks great!, enjoy the new sound , and be glad you didnt cut a hole in your car !!
peace

hey im new to the org and i been surfing around , and this thread caught my eye , i recently bought a cai from cosmo and snuck it on my dads maxima lol, it sounds really good but on the auto transmission it fools the computer and it takes really long to shift so in the end your car is slower and anouther thing is , where its placed all the snow and salt gets on it and cloges it so i wouldnt install them when driving in the winter cause it could really ruin your engine.

For now I'm using the 8 inch long monster that came with it, but I bought a shorter (4inch) pre-oiled K&N for when it does wear out.

montrealkid, does your dad's cars have the front end skid plate on it? That should block the snow and water from getting directly on the filter, unless its coming thru the front end by the foglights, then thats another problem.
