HID Ballast Mounting

I was just wondering where everybody else has mounted there HID ballasts. I had a bad experience with ones professionally installed 1-2 years ago and will be installing my own this time around.

I took out both headlight housings and saw possibly the frame right underneath. Also if these are mounted here would the wires be able to run in-between the housing and the metal?

Anyone have any better locations?

Did you mount these with 3m mounting tape or drill into the frame\metal?
Any pictures, links or better suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for the help

are you referring to aftermarket HID's in a stock housing? Because the OEM ballasts are attached right to the headlight housing.

I mounted my fog HID kit on the lower rad support, drilled and used self tapping screws. They are protected by the engine splash guards

I had the same problem today while I was trying to find the spot where I can mount the ballasts (I don't have any equipment to drill a hole so I tried to find spots that were suitable).

As for the passenger side, I found a bolt (and hole) right in front of the coolant resoirver (white, plastic one) but with the ballast mount, I couldn't get the screw go in for some reason... I need to try doing that tomorrow.

Driver side, it was easier to find a spot (by the box full of circuits that is in front of the car battery? Sorry I'm not really tech savvy) where a screw bolts the box on vertically. So I simply took it off, let the screw run through the mount and bolted them back on altogether.

For securing the ballasts, I may be using zip ties to really hold them tight. Because it got dark before I was able to finish, my max doesn't have headlights as I speak... Too lazy to put the stock headlights back on after fiddling with HID bulbs and all the wires

My hid kit is from operatic by the way, although bought off used from an .org member. That's why I'm a little reluctant to call 3Bspec for detailed instruction, which would be very helpful.

I put the driver side ballast on the relay box that sits low, right behind the headlamp. I put the passenger side ballast on top of the relay box that borders passenger fender. I affixed both with velcro tape.

Hmm..velcro huh. Never thought about that option. Does it hold the ballasts tight enough, 'cause I'm tired of messing with the bolt hole on the passenger side?

Thanks for looking out on a small thread like this one Progress, it means a lot.

3m Super Adhesive works great, used it in the girlfriends car. Its double sided and industrial strength.

You can get this at any hardware store or any big store for that matter. It is on quite securely. I've installed two sets of ballasts this way. Just make sure everything is good and clean.
