Here is a pic of the stereo in my 2003 Maxima SE. It has a CD changer inside the head unit, not an external CD changer.

What MP3 player adapters will work with this? I've used cassette adapters and FM radio adapters in the past, both can be annoying. I want a wired connection now.

I am looking for the same, and this is what I have found so far, but am very open to other options. http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=10026 This unit is $135, and it says it will work in a 98-05. Anyone know of a better alternative? Or a better head unit that works well with the preexisting bose speaker system? I just purchased a 2000 GLE. It has the Bose/Clarion PN-2281D

I pick my car up on monday, it does not have a cd changer. Will this work?

From what I've determined, there's no way for us to really install an adapter to plug in mp3 players directly to the stock stereo of our systems because of it having the 6cd changer in the unit itself (rather than in the trunk).

Anyone else know about this? I have the 02 with stock bose as well.

all the ones that plug into the cigarette lighter just broadcast a signal to your FM stereo. When driving long distances you have to keep changing the station it uses to one with static, PITA. Thanks though.

hard-wired fm modulator

I found another option that doesn't get much attention. Use an FM modulator that connects to the back of the Bose head unit. Here is one option: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142FMMO...-FM-MOD02.html , plus you need these two antenna adapters http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12040NI...a-Adapter.html and http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12040NI...a-Adapter.html , and this feedback isolator http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SNI1/PAC-SNI-1.html, total cost of parts about $91, plus $5 for a tool to pop off the trim. It has zero interference from radio stations. The same kind of setup at Car Toys is $295 installed, but it includes an ipod charger. Anyone got either one?

Only problem is when it is under 70 on cloudy days or under 60 on sunny days (seems very dependent on my car's interior temperature), the cassette will run through on one side quick, switch to side 2, then back to 1. It will do that a few times then pop out the adapter and say "tape err".

Is there a brand of cassette adapters that is better than others in this regard?

stay away from monster brand. sure monster is supposed to be the best but bad experience with their adapters.

the cheap sony ones for $15 work perfect. been using the same one for over a year now.

I found that the cassette adapters sold for use on XM radio units works very well. You can find them on EBay for about $10. Just search on XM or Ski Fi2 and you will see all sorts of things from FM Modulators to Cassette adapters.

The hardwired FM modulators are probably the best bet in terms of sound quality, but I'm no audio guru.

Here's my MP3/iPod "adaptor" :

I have an 02 Maxima and installed a hard-wired fm adapter. Its a powered adapter that connects to the unit via the antenna. When you want to listen to your mp3 player you flip the switch and it cuts off the antenna giving you the only signal of your mp3 player. The volume depends on the bit rate of the mp3, a good mp3 with high bit rate is louder and more crisp than one with low bit rate will be soft. I can take pics on a later date if you want, but you only see the switch and the wire to connect to the mp3 player. All in all after buy the fm adapter and the antenna adapter online it cost a total about 50 bucks and it took me an hour to install myself but I'm no expert.
