change dmy oil last week and i didnt notice the washer was bust or worn or whatever. so it was leaking a little bit of oil.

so today i untighten the plug removed the washer(which just fell off) and i wrapped yard around the nut and tighten it.

Leaking seems stopped. now the question is will this hold until my next oil change or should i get change the oil agian and replace the washer?

 

yarn probably wont provide a leak proof seal but you more than likely arent going to lose that much oil. If you can deal with a few drops of oil in your driveway then you can wait and just keep an eye on it. what i would do i drain it, replace the bolt and washer and then put the oil right back in

yarn??? I think you might be the first one ever to use yarn as a temporary fix for a car Duct tape probably would be most peoples first thought.

I personally would have used some teflon tape or something that might actually provide some kind of seal.

I agree with what the other guys are saying. Just make sure the pan you catch it in is really clean. Either that, or replace it with new oil.

 

do you think the oil can heat up enough to burn the yarn?

yea i mostly just change the parts. and i thought i was starting to burn oil 2, which wouldve sucked even more.

 

You should be fine until the next oil change, and no the oil won't get hot enough to burn the yarn. What you can do for future oil changes is buy a supply of copper washers and change them after every 2nd or 3rd oil change. Thats what I do, and you should always use one too, right at the bottom of the screw there is a little gap that the washer fills, without one you'll get leaks.

The teflon tape is a good temporary fix too. In the meantime if you park in a garage you can just lay down a few pieces of newspaper to catch the oil. If you park outside you can use something heavier like a piece of cardboard, that way you won't stain your concrete.

it was like white yarn or string, the stuff you use to try like newspapers up with. i had it laying around and thought it was a good idea. I dont own a driveway or garage so i will check the car agian today and see.

well ur suppose to have the washer there, meant just broke and i just changed the oil.
