Replacing Lower Oil Pan on 5.5 gen.....Anyone?

Just wondering how many folks here have had to replace the lower oil plan on their 5.5 gen? On my car it is really rusted althought not leaking or anything. So I wanted to replace it, wasn't sure if anyone in here had done so and if they did if the could provide some tips?

Anyone have the Nissan Part # for the oil pan and bolts?

I have a new lower pan sitting in the closet waiting to be installed on my 02, mine is very rusty also. I know I got mine for a lot cheaper than the $90-100 I am seeing online but I can't seem to find where I ordered mine from, the OES part # is W0133-1722972. My brother replaced the lower on his 02 Altima 3.5, said it wasn't too bad just gotta remember that you need to "make" the gasket for it using silicone, think he said he used Permatex Ultra Grey RTV Silicone and no issues since.

You might want to have brake cleaner handy to clean the mating surfaces of oil prior to reassembly. I spayed it into a clean rag and used it to wipe the surfaces.

Just so you know, those part numbers are specific to Courtesy Nissan only.

Your local dealer, or any other for that matter, won't be able to use them.
Call the parts dept. - they will be able to help.

I have the FSM and apparently it has no part numbers. Is there an online source you know of?

For parts, call or pm DaveB (the parts guy). He will help you out and give you a decent price.

Hey will that lower oil pan exchange between the 4th gen and the 5th gens, the drain is in a different location? That would help me since I have Cattman headers!

I have an 04 pan on a 98 car. Drain plug is in a different place, but it still fits & works just fine.

talk to Dave B today He stated that 4th gen Vq's and 5th gen Vq's all have the same upper oil pan assy which would mean all the lower pans are interchangeable between the 3 engines

I have swapped from 02 to 06 man and auto oil pans. 02/03 uppers are the same for auto and man trans. 04 to 06 Auto pan will take the 02/03 upper and lower pans.

By the way the Auto pan bolts (upper not lower) do not all work as they are different length's ( i think 3 of them). I'm almost 100% sure from 02-06 the lower pans are all the same.

You will need (to replace it)
1) Ratchet (3/8's)
2) At least a 6 inch extension (3/8 lol)
3) 10mm (3/8)
4) Razor blade (cleaning old goop off)
5) REAL brake clean to clean new goop surface.
6) Flat head screw driver and a small hammer to pry off old oil pan (lower lol)
7) Once oil pan is off go get a sandwich and a beer. Sit for 30 min and let it drip into oil bucket (messy).

Don't forget to DRAIN OIL!! Best time to do it is when it needs an oil change! 14mm head , Best to use a lift or ramps. IF U USE A JACK PLEASE PUT JACK STANDS IN SOLID SPOTS EVEN IF JACK STAND IS STILL HOLDING IT UP!!! Also put e-brake on to make sure car stays where you park it (on solid flat ground). If I missed anything sorry!

James

You may want to get new bolts!!

just did this actually...

i jut replaced my lower oil pan as well (03 SE) due to bad rust on it. I also had to change the lower part of the oil cooler pipe as it was badly rusted too. So, you may want to confirm that it too doesn't need changing.
The swap was a piece of cake for the oil pan though... drain oil, drop pan, wait a while, razor blade the old goop off, and then wipe off any excess junk.
I got my oil pan from AdvanceAuto for $70 i think, plus a gasket. I also used RTV Blck when putting things back together.

Worked like a champ.

Good luck.

May I ask where you bought the oil cooler line? Mine is so rusted, looks scary.

i bought that at the dealer... booooo. ineeded it tht day and was therefore my only option. charged me $35 instead of Courtesy Nssan's $25.
tht too was an easy swap. Except that more coolant fluid comes out than one may expect f not ready for it. Be sure to dd the coolant flud back, or use this as an opportunity to flush and refill the coolant.
