with Illuminas & ss lines, steering pulls, clunky noises

I have Illuminas, and SS lines, and the steering does not track straight any more. Also, it seems that turn the wheel left or right sometimes you hear clunking noises, it makes me think the SS lines are moving around, maybe through the clip on the shock that is supposed to hold the line? Has anyone come across this at all? I have a right turn that a make every day at work, and when I get to the light and stop, I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left to lock, and then turn it to center. I make the right turn, and swing the wheel back the other way, and it is ok. If I do not do that, I have a right hand pull the rest of the way home. Stuff like that.
Any help would be helpful.

Thanks,

JimL

Something is loose. Not sure if the lines would cause a clunking noise. Re-check the install on the struts. Are the mounts facing the correct way?

Which side is the noise coming from? The Right? Check your upper strut nut torque along with the 3 upper strut mount nuts and the torque of the 2 lower spindle bolts!

Which way should the mounts face?

Also, could anyone tell me, it looks like a boot is torn on one of the Illuminas. Is that boot Illumina specific or is it Maxima specific? I will need to get another one. I do not remember if the Illuminas came with boots, something makes me think not.

Thanks,

Jim

There is an F imprinted on them, indicating the Front of the car.

The boots are Maxima specific - they don't come with the struts, and probably are not the cause of your clunk.

You say the car isn't tracking straight - is that after the Illumina install? Did you get an alignment?

Maxima specific. Boots do not come with the shocks.

check out the clunking noise, watch the video

It looks like the spring perch is not rotating freely, but moving/clunking. Is this a replace/repair, or will I just need a little silicon lubricant, basically the stuff to lube a car door hinge? I figure I will need to get a new boot too.

Thanks,

Jim

Are your mounts and boot original?

REALLY should have changed them when you changed shocks.
