Cruise control problem
Cruise control problem
so, when i turn on my cruise control, the "cruise" indicator light comes on on the dash, but when i hit the "set" button, it doesnt set speed and cruise. if i leave the "cruise" light on, and do nothing, the "set" light flashes 3x intermittently. anyone ever seen this before and know what it indicates or how to fix it?
I have had this problem too. The cruise control works with the break lights. so check your break lights and your fuses. This happened to me when i put led bulbs in. I had to add loaders to the lights. Hope this helps.
yea i had them for a while and the cruise hadnt worked for a while, i just finally got tired of not having it.
btw got rid of the LED's replaced w/ regular old red bulbs and presto! cruise is back. thanks for the help cajun!

Don't ya just love having the ability to do fairly sensible mods limited by OE interconnections.
Not that I give a rat's a$$ about cruise control specifically (all but never, ever use it in any of the three cars I own that do have it), it's the indirect control over what I do with my car that's aggravating. It doesn't belong to Nissan or even the bank that put up the loan any more.

Because - philosophically - I don't particularly like being squeezed into accepting exactly the same compromises that the OE design either preferred or were themselves forced into. If I did, I would consider myself neither an enthusiast nor a person of free will (and would be doing other things with my time instead of posting my thoughts on automotive fora such as this one).
In this case, to design the brake light system (or at least its connection with CC) in such a manner that upgrading the bulbs with more efficient and quicker-illuminating LEDs causes malfunction of CC (which is really a separate system) is to reach too far in terms of controlling end-usage of the car. CC only needs a [nonzero] signal from the electrical side of the brake system indicating that you want it kicked offline and speed control returned to full manual, not verification that only OE brake lamp bulb numbers are in place in the sockets. IIRC, CC copes with being turned off by MT clutch activity well enough, and there aren't any lamps of any kind involved there . . . why must the brake side be any different? Yes, apparently you can work around this, but it shouldn't be necessary to do so.
Side question - what if all three brake lights are inop? Does that make CC inop as well?
