Quote: I want one of these harnesses badly. So do most people on here just use the 350zx intake/exhaust maps just to get the car going before a dyno with a UTEC?
I really depends on the cars modifications, and how comfortable the user is at doing their own tuning. But most will probably just run on map 0 (stock) till getting it tuned.

More info on this soon as i know! They are not currently in production yet. More continuous testing is being done to assure flawless operation.

After Full completion of testing the prototype harness and Utec functions, i will then place an order and at that time a production run will occur. Further details soon.

as Always thanks for Everyone's help on this project!

Seems like an awesome idea, however, I have a VAFC now and when it's not plugged in, the car doesn't run well at all, I'm guessing cause it intercepts the MAF signal. Would that mean I couldn't use this harness if I wanted to get a UTEC or I would have to wire something else to make this work how it should? A little more input would be lovely, cause I do want to go to a UTEC at some point. Thanks!

I would recommend to uninstall the Vafc, If your factory ecu harness is in stock form IE nothing intercepting any signals, or anything taking power from the ecu harness.

Then the this PnP harness would be just fine.

The Factory ECU harness must not have ANYTHING added in that is drawing power from it, this can cause the UTEC and ECU to not get enough power thus causing issues.

Then I guess that won't work for me. Like I said, the car runs terribly without the VAFC plugged in. It feels like it runs like I have a bad MAF. Isn't part of the VAFC install splicing into the MAF wire or something? Sorry, I don't know too much about it. I took it to a shop to have it done.

You're supposed to intercept (ie. cut) the MAF wire to connect the VAFC harness, not splice/tap into it.

Anyway, back on topic please.

Well, in any event, I guess it was cut. But I need to know if this harness will work with the VAFC removed because of all the wiring done for the VAFC.

It will be fine as long as your ECU wires are hooked back up properly.

If you uninstall the VAFC, all you have to do is reconnect the MAF wire on the ECU harness and everything will be the same. That's the only wire that is cut, everything else is tapped.

Uninstall and unplug are different things when it comes to vafc...

Uninstall it and make your factory ECU harness like it was from the factory.

You will be just fine.

Quote: I have no real need for tuning on a dyno although it would be somewhat useful to get the timing exact. I have a wideband and tons of info on what timing makes power on these engines. I'm going to be datalogging and fine tuning with UTI at the track this saturday if the weather holds out.

I've got it pretty well tuned as is and my car definately seems a good bit quicker than on map 0 (stock tune). I'm running around 26* timing over the whole powerband and solid 13.5s up to 5700 then letting it richen up to around 13.0-13.1 until redline.
Hey Sparks, what kind of gains did you experience from map 0 versus stock Maxima's?
Any driveability issues with running it at a higher timing of 26 degrees?

Map 0 and stock Maxima are the same

also, please keep this thread on topic for the development of the PnP Harness only.

Looking forward to using your harness, as are a lot of others.

Alright so I've been reading and reading and reading. I'm trying to understand what exactly the PNP is. This is just saving time with it being plug and play?(an adaptor if you will). Now the 350z UTEC works in the maxima with the stock mapping? I'm assuming people with heavy engine mods looking to make more power by pushing the car to different limits in any gear, and mapping those corrections/advancements.(with utec)

My question is what software are people using to load these mappings from utec? Also is it easy to make changes in car while you see changes or advancements.(own tuning im assuming) I hope this all kinda makes sense.

TippyToes, if you read the install link just above it will point you to a program that actually has a nice GUI interface to the existing TurboXS map. Yes you can tune this on the fly, thats why the UTEC allows a USB plug. Its a bad *** device. I am still waiting for this harness I don't wanna solder 90 or so wires.

SurraTT the new pic looks great. I finally found time to take apart my ECU compartment and took pics. It is a VERY tight space in there. I will PM them to you when/if they finish uploading. I think I will have to take the dash out and probably make a cut with a hole saw in the firewall/ecu compartment for this to work...

OK guys, More testing and development is taking place, thus ensuring a flawless product that will bring together 5.5 gens and UTEC's!

I was hoping to release them soon, but its going to take some more time.
