New Fuel Filter

So, I Installed my new fuel filter, $16 at the dealer, what a difference, it dont even sound like the car is running now, i though i stalled at the light, 140k on the clock, nissan calims lifetime, heh lifetime my ***, take a look at these, i cut open the old one. i made them links because the pics are pretty large.

I just did this like 30 mins ago, i went to the gas station to fill up, car accellerates much quicker and it idles very very smooth, i thought it stalled at the light it was so smooth and quiet. long term millage assesment is yet to be determined

Professor, (or anyone for that matter) would you please share the part numbers for the filter and O-ring, if you replaced that too?
I've seen part numbers 16400-2y505 (2k2 fuel filter) and 17342-01A00 (O-ring), but I understand they are different numbers for 2k and 2k1.

Ill have to pm you it then, iam sure its the 16400, i did not replace the o ring but i have to, it grew to like 50 times it size when i took it out LOL, i just cut it to fit, glued the cuts with super glue and popped it back on for the mean time, iam not on my pc now or at home to get the part # so gimmie a few hours till i get back.

Shell 93 octane.but who knows before me.there was also gritty super fine dirt and small metal shavings inside the filter and the cub it sits in.

Its not mind blowing, but there is a diff , i think i have a air leak somewhere, it gets sloppy sometimes, i got to get a new o-ring and then ill double check it

So far no check engine lights, only drove it 83 miles since the change.

Yup just order mine to all together 29 bucks for both including shipping. I think when I do it Ill also change the oil and maybe seafoam. A triple Sugar pill

i just did this on my 4th gen like 10 min ago 10 bucks did it my self. havent driven it yet but it was the origional i think with 197k on it. i just bought it a month ago so, not my fault lol.

wow that looks really gunky!
should i change mine? I currently have 65k on it and often feel the throttle to be a bit slow to respond...specially when trying to accelerate at higher than normal rpms....basically the car waits for a bit and then boom! takes off.

I'm sorry to be skeptical but a little dirt in a filter doesn't mean its flow rate has degraded significantly. Too bad everyone who changes their fuel filter hacks it apart and says "it was so dirty" instead of testing it versus the new one. Also, does anyone know what the original filter material looks like? Who knows how dirty this one is unless we see a new one.

Thanks for the Courtesy Nissan reference! I went to my local Nissan shop and was told by their parts manager that the filter couldn't be parted out, and (get this) I would have to order the entire fuel pump. I didn't get angry. I actually got a little sad, because their Service dept is really good. Their Parts Dept Mgr, however... well, clearly that was the wrong answer.

"Lifetime Filter" -- yeah, right. My Apexi Pop-Charger is supposed to be "lifetime" too, but replacing it after 25k miles was a huge improvement.

The only real way to prove this would be to measure the dP through the filter and compare it to another...hmmm...this might be an experiment I need to get moving...

Anyone know the pressure range of the fuel line?

that would be awsome if you could do this... could possibly debunk nissans claim of a forever filter... im in .. make a new thread when and if you do this...

Yeah, I am thinking I can do this super-ghetto fab style. I don't even need to precisely mimic the system conditionals of the Max as the point is to measure dP, not what it is exactly...

Faaaack, just when I think my 'to do' list is whittling down...

yeah so far so good, i had a noticeable knock in the front middle cylinder, it has not come back since the change either, i though i had a bad wrist pin, i made a vid awhile ago about it because i was worried i was about to detonate a engine., hell today even with 93 octane i still get mad pinging..... iam out of answers and idea's to fix it. So things changed , others are still there...... maybe its time to retire that motor. 140k on it

it wouldnt hurt for someone to do a study and give some real numbers however the fact that it is a filter tells you that you would be to tell its dirty (as long as you can see it.) ..FILTERS in general when designed are made of specefic colors or materials to easily spot a "dirty " filter or worn out filter. whats the point of filter you can tell is dirty. a/c filters arnt black and grey for a reason.

Did mine last night and It was Fun i guess... started late in the evening so it got dark so took into the house and my girlfriend put me out because I reaked of Shell 93 so was on the porch with a flashlight Lol. Install was simple only hold up was getting the bottom piece of the fuel assmbly together you have to make sure you put the grommet in the filter than lube it so it slides in(no pun intended).Overall my car runs much much smoother! Still smells like gasoline though
