You might have a leaking/sticking fuel injector that is slightly flooding the engine when you shut the car off.

Could be a leaking injector or maybe a bad fuel pump. I had an 04 Altima couple days ago that also did this only when it was hot and the car had been running for a while. Fuel pump would intermittently drop pressure when the key was turned off, verified this with a gauge.

Also, even with no check engine light there may be a crank position sensor code stored, have you checked for codes yet?

First thought to me is cam or crank position sensor. I would check not only the sensors, but the harnesses. I had a hard start problem as well on my 4th gen S/C'er. The harness for the cam sensor had been damaged before and was fixed. Finally I replaced it and the car started up every time the first time.

Check your plugs, clean your TB and replace your air filter.

Well at this point all we can do is wait for the guy to answer. From a Nissan tech's initial diagnosing steps, check for codes, do this before you go replaced chit unless you like spending money.

Yeah I do have a SES light and I'm going to go to autozone soon hopefully tomorrow. But I had the SES before this started happening but I could just have multiple codes now :/

That kinda sounds like what mine did, before the starter let go. I would make those noises, basically like the engine would seize while trying to start. and eventually start.

At one point the starter was so weak (after 9 years, 130-140k miles), that one morning if flooded the engine, the ECU went in to freak mode and refused to start. Not only did it cost me a starter, but a towing, oil change and untold frustration that my baby was out of commission.

I don't know if there is any way to test the power / crank power of the starter.

mines was doing that and as i was pricing a crank sensor it left me sit in the nissan parking lot. they called me today and couldnt find anything wrong with it. mine does it hot warm and sometimes cold. im going to put a starter and fuel pump in mine since the fuel pump sounds kinda grindy at the time that this happens
