Re: my car is slower with intake!!!!

Seems and is slower are 2 different things. I suggest putting the car back to stock and time a 2000-6500rpm 3rd gear pull with a stopwatch. Do this 3 times, then install the intake wait a week and try again.

Did you try resetting your ECU? My friend put an intake on his Integra and did not reset the ECU and his car ran real sluggish..Once he updated that (unhooked his battery for three hours), his car ran great. Just an opinion

try the ECU reset to see if that helps.... but is the intake a cone-type intake?

Pop the hood and listen for vacuum leaks around the intake piping.

An intake can make your car accelerate slower but can't change your speed in any gear! Your gear ratio stays the same! A 5spd redlines about 96mph in 3rd.

Why would anyone Max owner want a mod that makes your car accelerate slower?

I just installed the Stillen Hi Flow on my 02'. It sounds pretty d*&$ good and looks even better. As for performance...it does seem a bit slower of the line. However, I think this car does best when pulling from about 30 or 40 mph anyway. I had an 01', lost to the Houston flood, and it did not pull nearly as hard as my 02'. I have only had the HF on for a day. So I will post in about a week or so with future comments. Enjoy the new sound!

Most of the giant 4 foot cones under the hood have shown a LOSS in low end torque but gain on the high end (in our cars anyway). If you don't want the loss... go OSCAI, CAI or SC

If it's the filter, that's normal. That's the sound of the air being sucked in. A vacuum leak can occur at any vacuum line or connection. Judging from the original post, I don't think anything is wrong.

Its been about a week since installing the HF Intake from Stillen on my 02'. I like it a lot. I am considering modifying the factory intake scoop and/or adding additional air supply from below. What is the secondary peice of plastic (looks like a small odd shaped container) attached to the factory scoop/intake about 10" from the very start of the scoop? Is this the "baffle" I read about in the search info. If I can remove it, it will give me room to route an additional 3" tube from below. Yes..I have read some of the archive info. on a search, but missed anything this specific.

Thanks. I looked at the pics, but can't determine if you removed the resonator. The "plastic container" on my intake is a different shape than the one shown on your pics. It appears to be just in front of the sensor, maybe 2".

With an aftermarket intake, the engine sucks in more air therefore an aftermarket performance exhaust is needed to let out the increased volume of air. Do a downpipe and exhaust, should help a lot.

Intakes increase low end and rob's top end.. to complete this balance you would need to get a Y pipe..

Hmmm I thought for sure it was the other way around? The intakes rob low end and increase high end I always thought? Does it act differently with a stock Y over an aftermarket Y?

Here's my understanding:

A cone intake may not be as effective at low end as a CAI because it is drawing in hotter air from around the engine. Cone intakes have been shown (on this forum) to be somewhat more effective at high speed than CAI on the 4th gens - arguably because of better air flow.

But, either intake is going to be better than stock. Both will increase air to the engine which will in turn increase power. The only reason a cone intake could be less effective than stock is because of heat around the engine.

However, the stock is far more restricted and isn't much better at drawing in cool air. There may be times when the cone intake is worse than stock at low end, but it ain't going to be much/often.

Also, there is no NEED to have a y-pipe for the intake to work. We aren't dealing with forced induction/nitrous. The y will help even absent the intake because it will reduce backpressure. Reduction of back pressure beyond a point WILL decrease low end and improve high end.
