Bouncy Idle between 1500-2000 RPM

Yesterday after grabbing a quick lunch, I started the car up and it immediately stalled. Fired it up again and it did the same. Finally, I got it to start and idle fine, but after driving a couple miles, it would stall once I was out of gear. After several stalls on my way back home, I shut it off and decided to let it sit for a bit.

Now, the car starts up and idles between 1500 and 2000 RPM. Is this the a case of a bad IACV? Does this have anything to do with an EGR? I have Hotshot headers with a perfectly running EGR, and my only codes are for secondary o2 heaters.

Any help would be great!

Pulled a P0505 code which is indeed IACV malfunction. But, it seems to be working OK because when the key is turned from the "ON" to "OFF" position I can hear it buzz.

Maybe I should just clean it...

Anybody have ideas?

I would try cleaning it first, see if it goes away. Then go back and reread my thread http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...-stalling.html. The dealer replaced the IACV but the ECM is more than likely going to be replaced as well. How many miles on your car? If it's <80k you should be covered and the ECM should be on Nissan if it went bad, too.

I hate to say , just replace the IACV, but if the IACV has never been replaced and you are over 80,000 miles, just replace that damn expensive IACV.
If your ECU is damaged, you are going to need to replace the IACV anyway. If your ECU is still good, A new IACV and a TPS adjustment will be a good way to prevent your ECU from getting damaged.

What type of buzz. Bad motor mounts can also cause buzzing. Search some threads regarding motor mounts. This only applies if you have an automatic. Manuals do not have electric motor mounts.

The car is a manual, so no motor mount buzzing. I researched and if you hear the buzz, then you're IACV is still functional, but maybe it's just extremely dirty and clogged up...

I'll try cleaning it but I couldn't get the damn hoses off the IACV the first time, any suggestions on this?

I wouldn't bother trying to clean it. Your symptoms are of the very common stepper motor failure of the IACV. There is no cleaning procedure that can restore its function. Buy a new assembly, and pray that the old one hasn't taken out your ECM yet.

I believe that's what happened to my IACV. AND the ECM went out too. Thankfully the ECM is under warranty and Nissan is footing the bill for it.

What exactly does the IACV do to harm the ECM? The car has been sitting since the incident so I'm hoping it hasn't eatin my ECM.

AEMAXIMA01, is your car back from the dealer?

The dealer didn't know the ECM was bad until the IACV was replaced and it didn't completely fix the problem. They checked the ECM today and confirmed it was bad. They have to order it in. It'll be in early next week and get installed right after. So no, still no car.

I'm well over 80k unfortunately, so I'm preying it's not my ECM. Were you right at the dealership when all of this happened to you? My car has been sitting so I'm thinkin it's got to my ECM

Oh no. I'd been driving it around for a while trying to diagnose it myself. How far over 80k are you? Hopefully you can get it figured out quickly. My car has had multiple issues ever since February, one thing after another. It's about time it gets fixed.

As the thread has be resurrected, thought I'd add, did my daughter's 2K about 2 weeks ago.
Started about 1 month before replacement, as the car stalled occasionally when slowing down. When watching the tach I could see it drop to about 400 and then when slowing, the engine shut off. As it was sporadic, the dealer didn't know the problem, so we drove it. One day it spiked and stayed about 1500 and the next day it would stall at every stop unless the gas pedal was depressed. I pulled the throttle body and checked the terminals and a pair no reading. Purchased a used assembly from Infinity with 32K and has been fine since the replacement. No problem with the ecu.
