When it rains it pours!

doesn't it seem like when you start to repair things then it's one thing after another that goes wrong? list all of the repairs you have had to do all in a row.

first of all my tires were getting pretty bald so i forked out over $800 for a set of toyo proxes 4, then immediately after i replaced the tires my clutch started to slip so there goes another $1k for stage 1 clutch & lightweight flywheel, while doing the clutch i found that my f&r motor mounts were toast and those costed over $100 a peice, then a week later the engine light came on which turns out to be a small leak probably the gas cap but the light is annoying as hell, now my front struts are going out, and this morning i found an oil spot under the front left side of the car.... this is driving me nuts makes me wonder what else is going to go wrong.

Man, how many miles do you have? I have yet to repair anything on the maxima and I've had it for a year and a half.

good sport...sorry to hear all that mess bro. Just spent 800 or so on tires myself nevermind all that other stuff you have run into. Nice to see you take care of your car though.

That certainly is unfortunate, especially considering the low miles. However, think the problem is exagerated because you seem to be replacing your stock parts with expensive updgrades. You didn't need $800 tires if your running stock wheels, nor the $1k clutch/flywheel. If it is the gas cap thats an easy fix, and two stock shocks shouldn't be much.

If the leak is on the left side of the engine, check to make sure your not pissing tranny fluid/gear lube. If it is oil, consider yourself lucky that your are leaking instead of burning it...unless thats whats next

Good luck with everything!

No I don't need the expensive parts but i figure when its time to replace that's the best time to upgrade. I understand most of these things are normal wear items but damn I wish they wouldn't all go at once.
Even if i were to replace with cheaper parts I'd still be looking at $450+ for the tires $400+ for the clutch and flywheel (my flywheel was garbage too) and OE struts are $230 a piece although i haven't shopped around thats the price napa gave me. The motor mounts were a dealer-only item so there was no way around the $100 a piece. And that is still a big chunk of change to fork out all at once

Oh and I already burn oil but I always carry a quart or two in the trunk and add a little here and there as needed

Cant' blame ya for wanting to do the upgrades now. And yikes thats expensive for shocks! Never liked Napa and thats one reason why. For $460 you can get 4 brand new Illuminas.

Best of luck to you, man. I know the feeling. Everything else in my life works like this, EXCEPT for the car haha I got the car at 40k miles and now it has 56k miles and I've just had to change the oil 3 times.

just wait till you run into axels, wheel bearings, oil leaks like power steering, then you'll be spending more money. I'm at about 1 major thing a month. *knock on wood

The oil on the front left side. Is it under the engine bay or closer to the tire? Since you claim the struts are going, which is about right at 84K maybe it's just the strut leaking. I've never had OEM struts on my Max so I don't know if they are oil or gas filled.

As for the rest of the stuff as the guys state above you can't really complain about tires since they are a wear item like brakes. And you could've spent a lot less.

And while I think a clutch should last longer it depends on how good the person before you drove it. You can consider that a wear item also.

Of all the things you mention above probably the only thing to be upset about is the motor mounts. And again depending on how hard people beat on the car with big time launches it could wear out from that.

I've only had my Max for about 6 months and iot's got 91K on it, but knock on wood, it's been pretty good so far.

Good luck with yours.

Repairs are opportunities in disguise. Once you figure that out, you'll be wanting things to break. (It's rarely the thing you want to go at that time, but you get the point.)

If your issue is primarily the cost of repairs/upgrades, it's time to ditch the Maxima and start driving something you don't care about.

Cheer up, Man. Enjoy your ride.

After putting it up on the lift and checking everything out it turns out it's just the strut leaking which is a relief, i'm glad its not transmission related.

Good to hear. Once in a while this oild guy guesses right. As I stated above from what I read it seemed like the strut.

Make sure you change them out as a pair and move on.

Ok...traded my excellent 97 max for a 02. Now this girl is beautiful but I have the dreaded timing chain issue, the jerk who had it before me beat the crap outa the engine and the gearbox. The idiot mechanic wants to charge me $1200 for labor plus parts to resolve the dreaded timing chain rattle. I decided to swap in a younger engine, snap pics with my digital cam so I can recall the finite details and save myself mucho dinero. Not a mechanic but I've done it a few times before. It's easier to change the engine than to change the timing chain tensioner while the whole thing is still swished up in the car.
