2002 weak accel.

My 2002 seems to be getting weaker in power. I hit the gas, but it doesn't pull hard like it once did. It goes, but the powerband seems to be flat. With no noticable pickup in power through the whole rpm range.

Note: When the car is not at operational temp. it does feel as if it has a little more power.

I've never replaced anything other that the airfilter, oil, oil filter, and brakes.

The spark plugs,so called non replacable fuel filter are all org. The MAF is the better model according to what I have read on here, but was wondering if that could still be a factor?

The car has 91,000 miles on it. It's a 6 speed, and I run 93 octane fuel only.

I could be totally off, but when was the last time you did an oil change? This sort of thing happened to me when I hadn't done an oil change in a while. After I changed the oil, all the performance came back

thanks for the input. I did change oil about 900 miles ago. I use mobil 1 5w30, always have since day one.

Something else I've noticed, and comes to mind after searching for a possible answer on the forum here. I've noticed my MPG average going down. I could get 30+ on a trip easy. Now it's showing 28-27 mpg. Of course we all know the thing is off by a few. I know it's hard to tell, or guess, was just hoping someone had the same issue, and had a starting point to check out.

Give the expert know how here on the forum, would I be better to replace the fuel filter, or MAF first? Of course I would be doing a 2001 with the thermo res. swap deal.

The original plugs are pretty close to the end of their useful life @ 91,000 miles. I'd also suspect a prossible exhaust restriction in either the precats or main cat, especially if your car uses oil between oil changes.

Change the plugs before you start throwing parts at the problem.

No ses light, but it did come on about 2 months ago for a cam sensor error. I cleared it. Hasn't come back on yet.

Good idea. The plugs look to be a semi easy job, and need to be done. Looks like I'll start with those this weekend. I"m not a big fan of just replacing things. Been there once before. Gets very costly.

Thank you

Weak Pick up on 01 max

Ive been having the same problem with my 01 maxima SE. It currently has around 82K miles. I changed my oil a week ago, and changed air filter and plugs about 2 weeks ago, but it still doesn't pick up the way a maxima should. I took it to a muffler shop and they said that I had an exhaust leak. Also my SES light is on, bc I have to change my O2 sensor. I just bought a greddy evo 2 catback, but haven't installed it yet. If i install the greddy and change my O2 sensor, should I see a significant change in acceleration?
