Best Strut mounts?

Hey guys, i just priced out the upper strut mounts for the 03 Maxima, If I replace everything including the rubber seats and gaskets etc, I'm looking at about 235 US, or if I buy them in Canada it's over 800 CDN!! Nothing to do with exchange rate, that's just what they charge.

I could save a few bucks by buying the moog upper strut kit with the bearing then change everything else with oem. I know when it comes to ball joints Moog > OEM but what about the upper strut mount and bearings?

I think you'll be fine with the moog mounts.

It seems like everything they make is better than OEM haha

Probably not made in Japan anymore. Example, latest set of Nissan oil filters are made in China now, previous in Japan.

Moog is definitely the way to go. I haven't foound anything from them that wasn't better than original.

You have to shop around for the best prices. I think RockAuto is a good place to start. Some places are a couple bucks more, but offer free shipping so you ahev to compare out the door prices.

And Ebay isn't a bad place to look since you can search by the Moog part number. Getting Moog off Ebay is not liike getting some part knockoff from Ebay.

Some places use Ebay for the low overhead and they can pay games with the shipping costs.

Good Luck.

So.....does ANYONE have anything else to say about MOOG parts vs. OEM or others?!?!

I'm leaning towards this Rockauto sale -- seems to be a good time to buy!

INfo? INfo?! Anyone...

That should do it.

I also bought Moog Inner Tie Rod ends, and control arms. Just ordered wheel bearings too.

Why are tie rod ends included in this list?

I would think that's something you replace when broken, like ball joints.

Your already there and torn down to those, why not replace with fresh ones. Unless you car is brand new, it wouldn't hurt.

If by that, you mean it's already on the lift, then you might as well replace tie-rod ends every time you rotate the tires.

I understand the motivation... it's tempting, I get that. But it's not necessary if they're not broken, and doesn't apply for strut parts. A full suspension kit, sure, but not for struts alone. Save your money for purposeful things.

For that matter, first take a look at your OEM strut bellows before buying new ones. Unless they're ripped and worn, there's no point in replacing them. If they aren't torn, then after removal just clean them up and condition them with silicon spray.

No by already there and (torn down) meaning removed it... which I can only speak for the 00', you have to take the tie rod end off to change/remove the strut. Disconnecting it from teh knuckle to allow the movement needed to get strut............................................. ...........

Now that I think about it and picture it in my mind you might could get away without having to disconnect tie rod ends for strut removal and installation. I haven't tried leaving them on, but it seems like it would be much easier with them removed, especially to allow you to move the knuckle around positioning and unpositioning the knuckle during the installation.

Its hard to tell by just simply looking at the tie rod end (joint specifically) if needs replaced, unless the boot is visably torn and leaking the grease. If the "joint" is wore out how would you know? Just part of good over-all maintaince. Plus, like I said "your there."

True, it's a tight space trying to get the strut off without the tie-rod end disconnected, but possible (just risk tearing your CV boots). Undoing the swaybar joint of the end-link has been the easiest method for me (since mine are pretty new). But, like you, I can only speak for the '02, but thought it would be the same.

I suppose part of the equation would be whether or not you're doing the work yourself, or hiring a mechanic. Both approaches have their merits.

Not sure which moog parts you guys want, but advanced auto sells them.

Use this $10 off $25 and it may be cheaper than Rockauto...
