Check engine light was removed from 5.5 gen

i noticed that my CEL didnt even come on when i first turned the car on so i took the cluster out to check it out and it looks like that bulb is soldered in. Well there is no bulb in that slot so one of the previous owners must have taken it out. Is there any way to take the face off and get a new bulb soldered back in?

FAIL, 5.5 gen clusters don't have a bulb for the CEL, its an LED. I just checked.

turn over key in ignition to ON but don't start car, light should lit up.

If you haven't done so, you might want to scan your car for codes. There is a reason why people remove those bulbs/LED's. When I discovered that the SES bulb was removed in my car too, soon after I bought it, I had 1 stored code that was not giving any wanrning to potential buyers, including me.

Even worse, in New Jersey you can't get through inspection unless yopu have a working light.

They want to make sure you're not doing exactly what was done to you.

Good luck and hopefully the codes aren't too bad.

take it to Autozone. They will usually run the codes for free.

Hopefully someone will chime in with some help on how to do that. Mine is a twist out bulb.

I would guess you need to obtain the led and now solder it in

I don't know if you can just get another LED and solder it back in, but I am thinking more that you will need to replace your entire cluster.

Finding out the exact size of LED and if a resistor is required, again what size is going to be the first questions. I can provide you with two links from fellow members that have made conversions within the cluster. The first link is for converting the main led's to blue within the cluster by knight_yyz (I would PM him to ask more questions with regards to the led required, as he seem to have some pretty good knowledge on this).
http://gtamaxima.darkbb.com/5th-gen-...t_yyz-t278.htm (knight_yyz is also a member on this site)

The second link is for a How To Do removal of the main cluster its self, this write up was for installing chrome rings, but it has all the step by step removal process to access the main cluster, so it to should be helpful (this was written by Will and is safely stored on the backup site for TMEC)
http://gtamaxima.darkbb.com/5th-gen-maxima-2000-2003-f4/chrome-gauge-ring-and-or-gauge-leds-install-00-03-max-written-by-will-t295.htm
(Will is also a member on this site, sould you have additional questions)

Its very easy, i converted mine to led, Just whatever you do, DONT remove the needles. its all done from the back, you just have to take out every single screw, theres alot. buts is very easy, with LEds you have to make sure the polarity is correct. you basicly see then once you take it all out

POLARITY

Not sure how a broken car can be a dream, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

that board is not going to help the OP as he has a 2k2. I have a spare board for a 2k3 or 2k3 auto.

The 2k2/3 board uses smd's not led's

you can buy smd's on ebay, but again polarity is important so if you solder it on backwards you are out of luck.

There is a way to remove the needles which will not screw up calibration, not sure if it is on this site or not, but it is on the G35 driver site.

P0140 – Heated Oxygen Sensor malfunction Sensor 2 Bank 1

P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2

Next time just go to autozone and they do the same for free.

That was awfully nice of you, Ryan, directly answering a noob resurrection of a 7-month old thread for a completely OT post. Most people would ignore or flame.

I can pretty much promise you both precats will need to be replaced to clear the codes.

My response started as a go to autozone flame, but this just ended up being easier. Kills me because there are 1000's of topics that directly address his issue yet he resurrects a un related thread.

Before buying headers, I'd buy O2 sims to make sure they are going to work for your car. Would suck to get headers, then get O2 sims to pass emission testing and not be able to get them to work.
