The only reason not to get one is if you are planning on getting another intake later on. Then I would say save your $ for the better intake.

I've never noticed any gains in hp through the use of the K&N stuff, so I don't think they're worth it if that's what you're after.
The main reason I don't like them is that when you pull the filter out to clean it, you have to wait until it air dries completely before replacing it, which means no driving the car unless you have another filter available. No speeding up the process by putting it in the dryer or anything either as K&N says that can damage the filter. I found the drying process was at least an overnight ordeal.
I'd only get it if I was trying to get more surface area in order to allow more air to be ingested. Ie-cone filter on an improved intake. Then I'd have two filters, because I don't feel that installing an air filter should be a two day job
Just my opinion.

No gain
I installed the K&N drop in at about 25,000 miles and made some runs before and after on the street with basically the same circumstances. I could not tell a difference but I have better piece of mind knowing I have a much better made filter in place than the stock one.

I installed the HF Intake with the K&N on my 2k2 SE. It seems to be searching for more air below 4,500 rpm. Performance is about the same, maybe a tad lighter down low, but a little quicker in the upper end. Best of all...it sounds good. I can't wait to do the exhaust!!
