Goodbye Breakaway Side Mirrors!?
I was at the dealer this morning for routine service for my '01 and was looking around the lot when I suddenly realized that none of the 2002 Maximas or Altimas have folding/breakaway side mirrors, which have been standard since at least '95! I asked the service manager and he said he and the technicians and sales people couldn't believe it either, they were completely shocked as well when the new models arrived. He told me he figures it was a cost saving thing, plus they get to make money replacing lots of torn off mirrors. I drive around New York City a lot and would have lost both mirrors on my '96 several times over if it didn't have breakaways. I usually fold 'em in when I park on the street to prevent damage. Who are these idiots at Nissan? They can't seem to make improvements without cutting other important things out. I imagine they will have recieved so many complaints by next model year that the mirrors will go back to how they were for the last six years (I hope)

I definitely saw it with my own two eyes....but
Perhaps some do and some don't. The dealership I saw them at was in Maryland. It's possible I was looking at a GXE, but I'm sure I saw it, and the service manager confirmed it. Also possible they had a temporary part shortage and switched over to fixed mirrors for a few production days. But I'm positive I saw it.

OMG! If that's true... it's horrible! I know the older Altima's had them coz my friend had them. Hell, my old Sentra had them. I think they were standard on all Nissan products. That would one dumb a$$ decision on Nissan's part if they really got rid of those. Why don't they just stick a Ford logo on the back and get it over with!

Looks like another mod for folks with 2k2 cars.
Nissan will probably charge over $200 for a mirror.

The Maxima have folding side mirrors, but the Altima do not (another reason why I didn't get the Altima).
My old 87 Supra Turbo has telescopic steering column, electronic lumbar support, electronic side/lateral support, oil pressure gauge, etc. These would be nice in newer cars.
