3" Exhaust - good idea?

So I have a buddy that runs an exhaust shop. He quoted me $390.00 for a complete 3" cat-back with a Magna-Flow muffler... With just bolt-on's will I gain anything from a 2.5" to a 3"....?? Does this seem like a good deal?

Personnally I also have a magnaflow custom exhaust but 2.5'' and it sound really great. It depend on which kind of sound you want but IMO go for 2.5''.

You should gain some by having 3" versus 2 1/2". I am guessing maybe about 5 HP.

Where in the powerband? Upper, mid, or lower? I would love to see a power pull comparison between the two exhaust systems, just to get idea where the 3" strenghts and weaknesses are...

rr77 that LTB fits really well under those OBX headers! Did you have to modify them to fit?

I think that's a good deal...my D21 (4cyl) exhaust was about the same but with T409 stainless steel!

The weakest point of any flow based system be it air or liquid is its lowest flow point. You could have a 4" catback but your weakest flow point would still be before the cat where the exhaust is much smaller than your cat back. That being said you can gain by replacing the cat back however the larger gains will come from removing restrictions up stream. AKA headers and or a ypipe.

Also that sounds, damned expensive for a custom crush bend system.
