How to make your own intake on 5th gen
How to make your own intake on 5th gen
In this thread I am going to explain how to make a home made Intake. I found the parts off of a s10 pick up truck that was in a clunker at my job at a Toyota dealership. It had a full K&N intake. After installing this into my car it had a much better tone and almost sounds like a Z
Tools required:
Filip's head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Any kind of saw
10mm socket wrench with plenty of extentions
Parts Needed:
Air filter (Any kind of your choice)
3.5 inch pipe
One adapter from 3.5 inch to 3.25 inch
6 inch pipe with slight bend made of plastic
Step 1:
Remove entire air box, use your 10mm socket wrench and take out all the bolts. (you do not need to remover the front part of the intake that goes to the grill). It is easier to get the MAF tube off if you dont unbolt it and just unscrew the rubber fitting that is at the other end of the tube. Once Air box is removed there is a metal bracket that holds up the air box on the rear side bolt that back into the body so you will be able to clip the wire harness into it.

Step 2:
Remove the MAF, take it out of the tube by pushing the green clip on the top all the way down and pull up at the same time. Once MAF is removed take out the tube that you insert the MAF into out of the car you will need to modify it. Once out you will need to cut off the the 4 bolt holes, to do this measure a quarter inch behind the flat part so it is just a plain tube with just the hole for the MAF. After cutting it clean it, make sure that you don't leave any shreds of plastic in there for the engine to suck up.
This is what the MAF should look like after.

Once put back into car you can put one of the two adapter onto it.

Step 3:
Take the 6 inch tube and put it on the air filter, you are not installing into car yet you just want to see if there will be enough room behind the battery for everything.

If room is needed after your test fit take as much length off the pipe that is needed. Once everything fits well screw it into place and look over everything. Once it looks good start it up and take it for a drive.
Would like to hear some feed back on it, I know I am not the first one to do this but I thought that this was an interesting way to do it.
