OEM HID Bulbs? the difference in oem colors... VS age of bulb w/ PICS

Last week i was thinking my oem hid bulbs have lasted forever, then the next day BAM i have a headlight out....

The bulbs are oem Phillips from 2002. so thats a 7 yr old bulb. and i have my headlights all the time im driving.

so i bought a pair of oem nissan phillips bulbs. from a g35. with 44k miles, thats a 05 i think.

the color difference is HUGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

original bulb to my car is on the drivers side. its BLUE while the newer one is on pass side and its yellowish white.

is this just due to the age and how long the bulb is been used for???

or are the early HID bulbs different colors? cuz we have another 02 max and they are also blueish.

CLICK for bigger pics

i just found this very interesting, cuz i seen where people said oem hids was to yellow for them and i was like wtf mine are def not yellow at all, but now i see what they meant, they had newer bulbs.

I usually replace both bulbs at the same time if one goes out; sort of like tires. This is so the "wear" is even on both of them, thus they should be the same intensity/color.

well the one on passenger side is from a g35. and its yellowish. depends on the camera flash, thers one pic where flash was on.

i think its AGE and hours on the bulb. it could also be something phillips change inside the bulb too.

The labeled light color on an HID bulb is an average that it will maintain over 2-3000 hours. After passing around 100-500 hours the phenomenon "color shift" will take place. Color will change slightly from a yellowish tone to a crisper bluer tone. The magnitude of color shift will vary depending on brand, model and rated color. It is a very gradual change and unless paid close attention to, a customer might not notice. OEM 4100K Bulbs manufactured by Philips has a colorshift of approx 250K after 500 hours, which will bring it to up to 4350K. Asian manufactured bulbs have been reported to have little or no color shift. Most of them come with output stealing blue filters, which may be part of the cause.
