I believe my old stock 03 SE muffler tips were crimped into place, been awhile so I can't remember now.

I believe they were sloipped on and bolted in place. I had that single oval tip on my 00 and it was ugly and cheap, they oxidized quickly and never really were made of any good quality material. Honestly your best bet are some 3"-3.5" SS welded on tips.

They do look like they were slipped on and perhaps crimped with a spot weld.

I am Bad, thought you meant the twin tips ... looks like your speaking of the shroud that I have seen a few twin oem pipes, not sure how that shroud is fastened.

The 5.0 gen had that rectangular shroud. The 5.5 had twin chrome tips that were crimped on. It wasn't exactly the finest quality exhaust tip arrangement. Kind of cheap looking, as I recall.

Weird, but the Infinity G uses those same crimped tips. You'd think they could do something with higher quality without much design effort.

my 2k had 2 screws on each muffler tip one on top one on bottom then it is just kinda crimped on once u take the 2 screws out it came off pretty easy. theres like a sleeve on the inside of the tip that slides over the muffler tips

Check Courtesy Parts

This link has parts diagrams for exhaust system. Looks like oval surround has some sort of bolt or clip to fasten to muffler pipes.

Most of the Real Stainless I've owned was cleaned on a regular basis! I polished My Cattman tips 1 time and washed and wiped them for the few yrs it was installed as well as my present Magnaflow tips which by the way have never been polished, only washed and wiped. The Magnaflows still look new where as the "00" oxidized really fast and I didn't want to remove the shroud cause it was stubborn so I hand polished it and IMO the metal was thin cheap and hard to get a good shiny luster like finish...But maybe I was ready for 33 more horses with my "03" and I didn't really give a fork!

My 00 SE had a phillips screw that held it on. When the douche bags at the muffler shop took off the old muffler, they tried to keep the tip saying that it was part of the muffler. A phillips screw removed opened up the oval expanding enough to slide it off. He felt dumber (or guiltier) than he looked.
