quick test pipe questionn
#41
Ive had my test pipe for 3 years and I never failed an inspection. It doesnt set off any CELs. Inspections for our cars consist of scanning the car for codes and with me the test pipe never set off a code. I guess that's b/c there's no o2 sensor on the main cat.

OK, guys. I tried my best. Go get your test pipes. Rattle rattle, cough cough.
You know, in the interest of full disclosure... I dumped the cat in my Trans/Am over 25 years ago. That doesn't mean I'm a hypocrite, it just means my priorities have matured outward (a little).
Who knows, maybe 25 years from now I'll look back with some small regret that I actually drove a combustion engine.

Like I said, the precats cleanse the exhaust more than enough to meet current standards otherwise Nissan would have been required to monitor the effectiveness of the main cat too.

My 1977 Olds Cutlass with a 455 swapped into it met the emission standards for its year with no catalytic converter.

There are bigger things to worry about with children than one maxima not running a main cat...if you think that's bad ride behind the bus your kid rides in.

luckily for us here in MD we only go through emissions once, and it is somewhat of a joke here too... why not just gut you main cat... i thought about a test pipe, but then i think that if i do ever get pulled over by top a flight officer of the millenium police and he chooses to look under the car then he would see what seems to be a factory catalytic convertor lol

Test pipe is a cheap way to find out whether or not you actually need a new main cat. If a test pipe gives you more power, then a new cat will too. If not, you only spent >$50 than $150+.

"Driver in the Sterling Mist Nissan Maxima, please proceed to the next pit stop for inspection."
That would never happen.
