5.5 Gen Headlight Removal w/ Data Dots...'lil help, please...
omg...all I will say is that this is HELL if you do it without taking off the front bumper...took me buddy and I 2 hours to do it when we were clearing out the amber in my lights
I'm conused!
I always thought they were just additional brackets which secure the lights. I want to remove my headlights to clear the lenses and paint them black. If somone could pm me aswell and tell me how to go about doing this, it would be appreciated.

Data Dots = a security marking technique http://www.datadotusa.com
What I think he is asking about, is it the actual harness/bracket that people have put in place to prevent easy removal of the 02/03 headlights.

Sooner, did yours have data dots when you removed and cleared your corner?
theres no need to take off the front bumper to remove the headlights...if you just move the splash gaurds aside under the bumper, theres 2 14mm bolts, just take them off and the hard part is done...

Try again...
It is not a Nissan only thing however, Nissan 'affiliated' it self with Datadots...

Nissan North America develop a "Theft Deterrent and Police Support Program" in conjunction with DataDot Technology and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). It is designed to reduce theft of Xenon headlights from its Maxima range of vehicles.
+1 ive never even seen these on 5.5 gens?? Maybe it depends on your area??
I thought they where just bolts that where smooth on top? IE no hex head. so they have to be drilled out? and the replaced with regular bolts???
Same as on the IGN switch bolts????
pics?

That's exactly my point. No one shares this information on how to remove them because they think it's going to lead to some headlight theft catastrophe. I think it's about time that someone just puts the instructions out there. This isn't 2003 anymore when HID headlights were the most stolen things from cars equipped with them. HID kits can be had for less than 40 dollars now.
I got mine off. Wasn't easy, but if you just explore a little bit you can figure it out haha. I ended up ruining my stock headlights trying to modify an aftermarket set. That was a mistake, but that's besides the point.
Look i work on cars with stock projectors and such.. same deal they put numerous brackets on the headlight to ensure that some 1 cant just pop the hood undo the 2 top bolts and slide the head light out... these type headlights are made with tabs that extend in and underneath the bumper so the beast way to take the headlights out (for me that is) is to take the bumper off so you can access the remaining bolts underneath......
But as stated above you might also be able to remove ur lower splashshield and reach up into the bumper to get to those bolts but iuno....Theres nothing SECRET or Special about it its just more bolts in some good hiding spots :-P
