Fuel Delivery Question

I've been having a problem starting the Max. It won't start unless I'm stepping on the gas pedal. This really wasn't an issue until this weekend. I'm driving and all of sudden the interior lights get dim and the engine stops. I put the car in park and start it up again. Give it some gas and everything sounds good until I put the car in drive. Everthing shuts down again. I was thinking transmission at first, but reverse was fine and did not cut off. Only in drive does it stop. Is this a fuel delivery problem or what else could it be?

i had a similar problem with my 4th gen...it was the crank shaft position sensor but i was also throwing codes.

in the bolded part...were you moving or had you come to a stop and it shut off? if you came to a stop it sounds like my probe and the idle sensor and EGR went out but i didnt throw codes on that. if you were moving...same thing happened to me in my 02...im pretty sure it was something on the MAF and it cleared off cause it hasnt done it sense

I was in the middle of making a turn when it first stopped. The second time I was at a light. Its not throwing any codes at all.

plug it up and check just incase...ive seen weird **** happen where it wont throw codes until its hooked up to a reader, mind you that was on a ford probe...

also i would go some where and get the fuel pressure tested that may answer you question. to me it sounds like low fuel pressure but im far from experienced so take it for what it is worth.

I will have to hook up the scanner tonight. I'm actually scared to drive it because It keeps shutting off. Can I use fuel injector cleaner to see if that works?

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I check the fuel pressure?

I hooked up the scanner this morning. No stored or pending codes. I was hoping I didn't have to take it to the dealer, but I will try and clean the idle valve as suggested before I do.
