2 codes... p0031 and p0138 - help please
#5
I am a handy person, but an auto repair rookie, so please bear with me for these questions:
2002 Nissan Maxima SE 6spd (car is not available today so I can't tell if it is a Cali or US car for emissions/sensor type)
Engine light has been on for a few months, Autozone scan yielded the following trouble codes:
P0138: Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0159: Bank Bank 2 Sensor 2
P1167: Bank 2 Sensor 2
Q: Which is bank 1 the front or bank of the cylinders?
I understand Sensor 1 refers to before the Cat and sensor 2 is after cat.
Q: As I am having a hard time visualizing the locations of the sensors and crawling under the car for a 6'6" guy is challenging at best - Does anyone have a diagram of the sensor locations with Bank 1-Sensor 1, Bank 1-Sensor2, bank 2-Sensor 1, Bank 2-Sensor 2 locations identified?
Q: Could someone tell me the sensor locations by passenger side or driver side and before/after cat, etc that would be great!
My plan is to replace the two sensors triggering the codes: Bank 2 - Sensor 2 and Bank 1 - Sensor 2
Q: Which is easier in to use for replacement sensors the non-OEM splice type or the "Bosch" sensor with full wiring? I know there is a big price difference. My thought was if I locate the right sensor I don't have to worry about tracing and re-stringing the harness back to the cylinders - am I "all wet"?
Q: If successful in replacing sensors, can I just clear the code with the battery rest method, or will it still require dealer intervention?
Thanks in advance for your comments. Money is a bit tight and don't want to get by the dealership prices right now. I have searched around a bit, but only have a general idea.

I've been getting P0138 (bank1/sensor2) off & on for the past couple months. Bank2/sensor2 hasn't triggered a code.
However, there is TSB NTB02-051a saying that if you get a code for a rear sensor on one bank, you should replace the rear sensor of both banks.
