Friend wants to go to the track

Comp G = Competition Group
Thing is after all the stuff you get...I would kill for a maxima style interior. The amount of ****ing plastic in that car is unreal...its like a playskool playground
The guys to really watch out for at the GXP guys, they have the LS4 engine and there is a turbo kit for them, it basically lets them walk right into 10s 1/4s
LOL yeah I like this avy...I might keep it for a while.

I had a 98 gtp before I got my 03 max... I dunno which is faster out of the two stock but I really do love both cars... My max feels like its faster but maybe it's just me wishing... hahaha,
but I'm kind of disappointed that our fastest car for our model has only posted like 12secs....
Drunkie... The 97 GTP SUCKS due to defects... but the 98-03 models can get the gen 5 s/c which you have and/or get a swap to the 03+ L67... Plus their lighter than your car by 300 lbs or so if I remember correctly... so they aren't as sucky as you make them out to be...
And a question before I get to browsing google for answers... How does the c/v's stand up too all the hp in the gxp?!?
But please post the results in.... I'm dying to know who would win...

i say the same thing! no excuse for raw cubes lol and i say the same about the 5.6L titan engine in a 6th gen max thatd be soo sick! thatd make the nastiest sleeper with like a RWD conversion. maybe get windshield decals that say TITAN POWERED

Displacement has nothing to do with this debate. There is no NA version of the 3800 that even comes close to what the VQ puts out. Then again, if you were talking about "positive displacement," then you're closer to the heart of the matter.

Engine Displacement
Also called "swept cylinder volume." Expressed in liters (e.g. 3.0) or cubic inches (e.g. 183), this is the volume of air pushed out by the piston on its upward stroke. This measurement doesn't include the area of the combustion chamber. It's determined by the diameter of the cylinder bore and by the combination of the length of the crankshaft stroke and piston rod, and the piston height. Everything else being equal, increasing displacement usually increases power, especially low-rpm torque.
maxima.. 3.5L Vq v6
GTPgxp...5.3L ls4 v8
thats displacement. . .

Look, I'm not trying to be a fanboy here. I'm just tired of that simplistic old adage, that doesn't take into account the context of the whole engine and the whole vehicle, for that matter.

random comment: Saw a GXP yesterday drilled rotors and all. Looked mean and understated. Its one of the few Pontiac's Id roll, the other being a G8 of course. Gm underrates there cars often, but that doesnt mean theyll run faster than you think they will. Should be close as it the first time for both of yah. Make sure your 3rd shift is clean!

I know what you mean. Ive been on blogs 80 pages long that started out with a v8 vs a v6 and next thing you know it gets out of control. Too many variables to consider and it turns out into a useless discussion. I always say "run what you bring" if you lose you lose but dont get into the "well if I had a S/C i would have won". Get you one and line them up again.

BTW: my bolt ons + tune '02 spd is faster than a friends GXP with pulley, rough tune and exhaust.

I'd rather a Trans am or c5 z06 (not GM humping)
but the GTO is a heavy dog (4.4000 lbs) and the G8 is even heavier
While a Trans am weighs 3,400lbs and a corvette c5z is even lighter
LS1 whp tends to be 340-350
while the LS2 whp tends to be 360-370
but a trans am will win stock for stock all the time
I say the best combo here is a trans am with an LS7

You haven't hung around Mustang guys much, have you? They love to say it against the Hondas of the world, yet get butt-hurt when used against them in an LS? vs modular motor debate.
Fine. That's maybe what it meant sixty years ago when engine choices were limited, but it's certainly not how it's being referred to nowadays--and it's certainly not how mist max referred to it, did he?

This may have already been mentioned but its gonna be a matter of track conditions and driver skill. When I had my old 99' SEL 5spd I beat a 5.0 fox-body mustang again thinking he was gonna win I just blocked him out of my mind and raced against myself and as I was about to cross the finish line he was like 2-3car lengths behind and i was like freaking out with happiness haha my only idea i could think of was that he spun bad off the line? I ran a 15.3btw.

that "old adage" refers to a larger engine in the same car being faster. Its not meant to say that an 8.0L truck is gonna be faster than a 1.6L civic, its meant to say that a 3.5L maxima is gonna be faster than a 3.0L maxima. Obviously you cant just say "oh well the smaller one is turbo" cause that effectively adds displacement. It also is meant to compare similar style engines. You really cant compare the HP of an in block cam, totally invariable engine with a DOHC engine with VTC's, etc etc. Just plain old not comparable

If you mean the GXP with a V8...i don't buy it...those are high 12s cars stock

neither of you will even remotely be the fastest car there, so who cares? Just go run. Comparing cars only works if both cars are bone-stock and both drivers are equal in skills anyhow. Have a good time, improve your technique, and go from there.
Oh, and just because I see that drunkie is in here, just for him: (IBmyflamesuitison)

I checked out some youtube vids on the gtp and it looks like it could go either way. I would practice launching at the edge of traction and shifting like you stole it. If you don't have racing experience you can improve your E.T. by close to a second just by practicing. If he owns a set of slicks or drag radials you better have some too. Also, loose your spare tire and jack for the race. Good luck.
