New Alternator - New Noises

Well, just got done installing an OEM alternator in the Max. Actually wasn't all that hard. Anyway, after the install, I've got some new noises. Ther seems to be a whistling noise coming from somewhere around the alternator. This noise builds consistant with the rpms. I'm also getting a "poof" sound coming from the idler pulley that is consistant with rpms as well.
I can't here these noises while driving, but during idle at stop lights and from outside the car, I can really here it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my alternator as well, and I just realized I got a leak of coolant somewhere. I really hope it's not my rad and with 80,000km I really don't know what to think. I'm assuming the noise you're hearing is the belt that goes on the alt check with a mechanic and check on it. you may need to replace the belt. as for the poof sound, any more detail?

Also a bit off topic but how did you manage to post a thread? I've tried to post threads, and I keep getting the message
"

The belt is new so I know thats not an issue.
I also noticed that in the process of the old alt going bad and installing the new one, I lost a couple dash lights. One on the cluster, one on the radio and two A/C buttons. Somtimes I wish I wasn't OCD....thats going to drive me nuts.

Hmm, more specific on the poof sound? Well, sounds sort of like two popsicle sticks tapping against each other.

I just had a similar problem with mine. Just replaced mine about 2 weeks ago. Check the Alternator tensioner. make sure that your belt is on there tight. the tensioner is located right by the alternator.

here is a link to my thread with a picture towards the bottom of what im speaking out. http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ine-noise.html

once i tightend mine, the noise went right away. also, make sure your hoses that you moved out of the way to get the alternator down are secure and tight. i rechecked mine when i removed mine just to make sure.
