Front end clunking over rough/broken pavement - Solution
#41
The passenger side motor mount looks like a nightmare to get out though. How long did it take you to do yours? After reading a few motor mount threads I'm now contemplating eventually doing the front and rear motor mounts and maybe even replacing them with the stiffer Energy Suspension mounts.
I don't know if the other mounts are any easier.

Not trying to revive have an 03 with the clunking issue. Have all new struts in garage to do this weekend, hate I didn't find this site sooner. I would have started with the cheaper stuff, but I got 170,000 miles and they are probably due a change anyway. Thanks

2000 gle 160k miles clunking noise was definitely coming from the front motor mount. i could clearly see where the thing had burst and something rust colored had spilled on the mount. got under there and changed both mounts myself one afternoon after work. thanks for the tip about getting some 30 inc 1/2 inch extensions. i used a 2 ton floor jack and a wood block to support the transmission/engine. took some muscle to remove the engine mounts from the support bracket. by the way i had the electric ones which made a horrible loud noise at startup. just disconnect the wire and tape over the connectors. i got 4 motor mounts from a place deh i believe in calif. for $100.00 one day i'll replace the two on the top side. best news of all. the clinking noise is gone when i hit a bump in the road.
